About the Role:

The Public Relations & Communications Specialist plays a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining the positive public image of our organization across diverse audiences. This position is responsible for developing and executing strategic communication plans that effectively convey our mission, values, and initiatives to stakeholders, media, and the general public. The specialist will manage media relations, craft compelling press releases, and coordinate public outreach efforts to enhance brand awareness and reputation. By monitoring public sentiment and media coverage, the role ensures timely and appropriate responses to emerging issues or opportunities. Ultimately, this position drives engagement and fosters trust through clear, consistent, and impactful communication strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in public relations, corporate communications, or media relations.
  • Proven ability to write clear, concise, and engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Strong understanding of media landscapes and experience working with journalists and media outlets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within a corporate, nonprofit, or government communications environment.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing tools and social media management platforms.
  • Crisis communication experience and the ability to manage sensitive or urgent communications effectively.
  • Advanced degree or professional certification in Public Relations or Communications.
  • Proficiency in multimedia content creation, including video and graphic design.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive public relations campaigns that align with organizational goals.
  • Write, edit, and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other communication materials to targeted audiences.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, media outlets, and other key stakeholders to secure positive coverage.
  • Monitor media coverage and public opinion, providing analysis and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Coordinate and support events, press conferences, and community outreach initiatives to promote organizational activities.
  • Manage social media channels and digital communication platforms to engage with the public and amplify messaging.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to media inquiries and public requests for information.

Skills:

The required skills enable the specialist to craft compelling narratives and maintain effective media relationships, ensuring that all communications are clear, accurate, and aligned with organizational objectives. Strong writing and editing skills are essential for producing press releases, speeches, and digital content that resonate with target audiences. Media relations expertise allows the specialist to secure positive coverage and manage inquiries professionally. Preferred skills such as crisis communication and digital platform proficiency enhance the ability to respond swiftly to emerging issues and engage audiences across multiple channels. Together, these skills support the daily execution of strategic communication plans that build and protect the organization's reputation.
