Schedule Details: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
Position Overview
The Procedures Specialist is responsible for creating, managing, and reviewing procedural workflow to ensure excellent and consistent service throughout the Library system. This position requires a detail-oriented person with exceptional organizational skills and a comprehensive understanding of Library systems and procedures. The position also requires the ability to collaborate across departments to develop and document effective procedures.
Essential Functions
- Develops, documents, disseminates, and maintains the Library System's guiding principles, procedures, and best practices
- Collaboratively leads periodic review and update of procedures
- Works in branch public services or departments to retain familiarity with day-to-day procedures and solicits input from front line staff members
- Maintains Policies and Procedures and Procedures Review Committee staff intranet sites
Non-essential Functions
- Assists Organizational Communications Manager as needed
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or Associates Degree plus 4 years relevant experience required
- 2 years experience in organizational operations or procedures development required
- Proven experience writing organizational documents required

Additionally, this position requires:
- Job Knowledge, including Librarianship
- Comprehensive knowledge of Library administration
- Remains current on trends in the library field
- Ability to interpret and make decisions based on Freedom to Read/Library Bill of Rights exhibits satisfactory performance in this position.
- Technology including specific applications, hardware, and coding languages
- Demonstrates proven computer literacy with adequate keyboarding skills
- Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office and library operations software
- Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher
- Leadership
- Exhibits leadership and decision-making skills amongst managerial staff when gathering information and completing tasks for the purpose of MCPL procedures
- Demonstrates ability to navigate various issues to complete projects
- Communication
- In-depth knowledge of library regulations, professional guidelines, and ethical considerations to communicate policies and decisions within legal and ethical boundaries
- Skillful in communicating complex ideas, policies, and training content in a clear, concise, and understandable manner to library staff, patrons, and stakeholders
Age Requirement
- Must be at least 18 years of age
MVR Requirement
Possession of a valid driver’s license and a reliable personal vehicle for use in carrying out the duties of this position including transportation of materials and equipment (mileage reimbursed)
Possesses the ability to drive MCPL vehicle according to company policy
Work Environment
Works primarily indoors with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and must have a reasonable tolerance for dust, mold, scents, allergens, and communicable diseases which enables the employee to handle library materials, work in older buildings and interact with coworkers and the public.
