Are you a State Fair lover with a knack for creating strong social media content? The Marketing & Creative division is hiring a seasonal Marketing & Social Media Assistant for March-Sept. of 2027! This role will assist with social media content creation and community management of social media channels for the Minnesota State Fair. In addition to social media, this position will assist with working with the media, guest and information services support and the production of marketing materials.

Essential Functions

• Assist with creation of content for the State Fair's social media channels, including writing captions, filming and editing videos, creating graphics, etc.
• Assist with content planning and scheduling by monitoring social media trends and collaborating on content ideation in a team environment.
• Monitor and respond to guest inquiries via community management platform and email, identifying when to escalate as needed to appropriate staff.
• Track and report metrics on guest inquiries and social media analytics.
• Assist with preparation of marketing materials for annual New Foods, Specialty Sips, New at the Fair and other announcements while maintaining confidentiality.
• Support all department areas where needed, including proofreading and editing written materials, administrative duties, etc. Tasks may include working with the media, guest and information services support, advertising support, etc.
• Assist with tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor or other marketing department staff.
• Opportunity for up to 40 hours per week in-office schedule from March to May and required 40 hours per week May to September, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, with flexibility as needed. Extended hours Aug. 21 to Sept. 6.
• During peak activity times, work extra daily hours and periods with no days off.

Requirements

• Available to work Kickoff to Summer at the Fair, May 27-30 (Memorial Day weekend) and all 12 days of the State Fair, Aug. 26 - Labor Day, Sept. 6, 2027.
• 3+ years of experience creating social media content in a professional setting (organization, collegiate coursework, student group) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Threads and X.
• Strong computer skills including social media tools (CapCut, Sprout Social or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience working in a customer service and team environment.
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Passion for community engagement and storytelling.
• Ability to perform various duties with specialized attention to the fact that the information, decisions and communication involved may be sensitive or confidential.
• Ability to stay calm, efficient and effective in high-pressure and fast-paced situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completion or working toward a bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, advertising, communications or related area of study.
• Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
• Knowledge of AP Style.
• Knowledge of the local media market.
• Valid driver's license.
