Job Title: RN II - MED-SURG Profession: RN II - MED-SURG Specialty: RN II - MED-SURG Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of one year in medical-surgical experience License: Current RN license in state of practice Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor Must-Have: Current Epic experience Description: Responsible for the planning, coordination, and provision of nursing care to patients on the medical/surgical unit. This position is responsible for addressing age-related physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Key responsibilities include care planning, monitoring vital signs, administering medication dosages, and assessing physiological changes and psychosocial needs. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel within their scope of practice. Essential Functions: Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations. Demonstrates competency in all routine nursing skills, including medication administration and intravenous therapy. Maintains care and management of indwelling catheters and drains, along with the safe use of medical equipment such as glucose meters and IV pumps. Addresses the age-related physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of diverse patient populations. Initiates multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team. Educates patients and their families regarding care using appropriate teaching methods. Delegates patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice. Evaluates the effectiveness of care performed. Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided. Actively participates in the orientation and training of new employees, students, and ancillary staff. Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve care and unit operations. Is open to change and reaching new goals for the unit. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. The medical-surgical unit is focused on a variety of patient populations, including neurotrauma, post-operative ortho, and pneumonia/infection patients.
