UCI CARE provides free and confidential support services to members of the UCI community who have been impacted by sexual assault, relationship abuse, family violence and/or stalking. Programs and services are available to people of all identities and regardless of status. UCI CARE aims to end these forms of power-based personal violence by engaging the campus community in education, programming, and transformative action.

Your Role on the Team

Typically works on highly complex issues with survivors of sexual violence, assault, sexual harassment, stalking and domestic violence. Situations generally require decisions on matters that may be unique, complex, without precedent or may require quick thinking. The incumbent will be required to formulate strategies to best serve the survivor's interests in immediate and long-term support and resolution of their situation. May lead other staff in developing effective outreach and survivor support trainings, services, and campaigns.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:
  • Advanced experience with and knowledge of crisis intervention, trauma response, and / or advocacy to those harmed by violence.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people of various ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender identities.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively using independent judgment and making professional decisions and recommendations in situations that require highly individualized planning in effectively advocating for the survivor / victim.
  • Demonstrated experience providing direct services to people from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, gender identities, and backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills to achieve progress on multiple, simultaneous case management and client needs, to meet deadlines and to maintain timely accurate documentation.
  • Strong ability to change focus and manage interruptions effectively; answer immediate victim / survivor requests.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex and difficult decisions when policy is ambiguous, there is latitude for usage of judgment, or the client's reaction to advocacy methods may be less predictable. Ability to respond to complex cases and appropriate engage highest level of response resources and strategies.
  • Master's degree in counseling or related area, or Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Must have one year of counseling experience, including six months sexual assault crisis or domestic violence counselor experience.
  • California Certification for Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor Training.
  • California Certification for Domestic Violence Advocates.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with survivors of power based personal violence.
Preferred:
  • Broad knowledge of the dynamics of power, privilege, and oppression, and interpersonal violence at universities and in education and workplace settings.
  • Advanced public communication skills. Experience developing and delivering trainings and facilitating curriculum and services in front of diverse audiences. Ability to adapt materials quickly so that the audience can understand the concepts being presented.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills to work effectively within and outside of the university system in developing relationships and programs to address service issues and needs. Experience cultivating and sustaining ongoing collaborative relationships with a wide array of constituents (staff, faculty, students, community members, and with campus and community organizations) in order to accomplish goals.
  • Strong communication skills to prepare and deliver presentations and to prepare written reports, correspondence, proposals, program assessments, email and other materials for a variety of audiences ensuring compliance with departmental and university guidelines, practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights / Title IX, Violence Against Women Act, Clery Act, CA Victim's Rights Laws, and The White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault, and other relevant legislation and reports.
  • Demonstrated experience providing culturally-relevant services to communities that have been historically underserved by anti-violence movements.
Special Conditions:
  • Exercise the utmost discretion in managing sensitive information learned in the course of performing their duties. Sensitive information includes but is not limited to employee and student records, health and patient records, financial data, strategic plans, proprietary information, and any other sensitive or non-public information learned during the course and scope of employment. Understands that sensitive information should be shared on a limited basis and actively takes steps to limit access to sensitive information to individuals who have legitimate business need to know. Ensure that sensitive information is properly safeguarded. Follow all organizational policies and laws on data protection and privacy. This includes secure handling of physical and digital records and proper usage of IT systems to prevent data leaks. The unauthorized or improper disclosure of confidential work-related information obtained from any source on any work-related matter is a violation of these expectations.
  • Must be able to provide services, advocacy and crisis intervention during non-business hours as appropriate.
  • Must maintain confidentiality within the bounds of applicable laws and regulations, including Evidence Code 1035.2 and 1037.2. Accordingly, advocates are not reporters under SVSG Policy, Title IX, or the Jeanne Clery Security Act.
  • Must pass a background fingerprint screening.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation for accompaniments and other local travel.
  • Hybrid Work Schedule: This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement consistent with university and departmental guidelines. The incumbent is expected to work on campus on designated days each week and may work remotely on approved days, depending on operational needs.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $80,850- $80,850 (Annual).
