Mental Health Clerk

Overview NaphCare is hiring a Mental Health Clerk to join our team of medical professionals at the Birmingham Community Work Based Facility in Birmingham, AL. As a Correctional Mental Health Clerk, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide administrative and clerical support to the Mental Health Director and Health Services Administrator in a controlled environment where security is a top priority. Responsibilities Manage all incoming calls, direct or transfer calls to appropriate staff, retrieve all voicemails daily and return calls as necessary. Use Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) to prepare reports, memos and correspondence; also use X-Jail and TechCare software. Perform clerical functions including tracking supplies, creating purchase orders for outside vendors, and distributing mail. Enter client data into Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, including case notes, payments and scheduling. Shred all documentation containing Patient Health Information (PHI). Coordinate with Records Department for archiving files and reports. Coordinate volunteer services. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word). Excellent organization, attention to detail, time‑management and multitasking ability. Ability to obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred). Minimum one year of clerical experience, preferably in a correctional setting. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance‑abuse issues. Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and confidential information and adhere to a Code of Conduct and all corporate policies. Pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
