Medical Assistant Job Summary

Provide clinical and administrative support in a fast-paced orthopedic surgery clinic. This role is responsible for coordinating patient care, managing scheduling and documentation, assisting physicians during patient visits, and ensuring smooth daily clinic operations. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment are essential.

Medical Assistant Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Schedule patient appointments, referrals, surgeries, diagnostic testing, and obtain pre-authorizations
• Triage incoming patient phone calls regarding medications, wound care, and post-operative concerns
• Maintain professional and compliant communication with patients in person and over the phone
• Manage electronic medical records (EMR), including scanning, documentation, and visit entry
• Support MIPS documentation and data capture requirements
• Process medical records requests including workers’ compensation, nurse case management, FMLA, and disability paperwork
• Assist physicians with post-operative care, fracture management, and follow-up visits
• Support daily clinic operations including rooming patients and preparing exam rooms
• Maintain inventory, stock supplies, and ensure clinical rooms are clean and organized
• Sterilize instruments using autoclave procedures and manage biohazard waste disposal

Medical Assistant Teamwork & Clinical Support Responsibilities

• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and clinic staff to ensure efficient patient flow
• Communicate effectively across clinical and administrative teams
• Assist with patient education and support during visits and follow-up care
• Maintain a professional and patient-focused environment at all times
• Adapt to changing priorities in a high-volume orthopedic setting

Medical Assistant Technical & Clinical Skills
• Experience working in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems required
• Strong understanding of clinical workflows in a medical office setting required
• Ability to maintain accuracy in documentation and patient records required
• Orthopedic or surgical clinic experience preferred
• Knowledge of anatomy, fractures, and orthopedic equipment preferred
• Experience handling post-operative patient concerns preferred

Medical Assistant Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• RMA or CMA certification required
• Strong communication and organizational skills required
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment required
• Stable work history and strong professional references preferred

Physical Requirements

• Arm and hand steadiness and finger dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard and telephone
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
• Ability to walk, stand, sit, and reach throughout the workday
• Vision, speech, and hearing sufficient to perform essential job functions
