Adjunct Instructor, Employee Benefits, College of Law Posting Start Date: 4/23/26 Work Arrangement: Onsite Job Overview The University of Cincinnati College of Law seeks an adjunct instructor to teach an Employee Benefits course during Spring 2027 or Fall 2028. The course covers the legal framework governing employee benefit plans under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and outside its scope, including pension and welfare plans, fiduciary duties, disclosure and reporting requirements, enforcement of participant rights, ERISA preemption, litigation involving benefit disputes, and the interaction between federal regulation, employment practices, and health and retirement benefits. Essential Functions Prepare the syllabus, teaching materials, assessments, exams, and lesson plans. Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning. Teach the assigned course using effective pedagogical methods. Track student attendance and refer students to the Administration for attendance or performance issues. Use Canvas (the institution’s learning management platform) to post assignments, syllabi, reference materials, and communicate with students. Read submitted student work and exams, provide written feedback in a timely manner. Hold office hours to provide individualized direction and assess student progress. Coordinate with the Administration to schedule make‑up classes for any cancellations. Grade all mid‑term and final exams and other assessments in accordance with the College’s rules; submit grades per the timelines established by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Review student‑completed course evaluations to analyze perceptions of teaching and suggest improvements. Adhere to all University and College of Law policies. Complete all employment documentation and required training. Minimum Requirements Hold a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA‑accredited law school or the equivalent. Five years of post‑J.D. work experience in legal practice or a related field; exceptions may be made when co‑teaching with a candidate who has the minimum experience. Communicate effectively. Maintain professional composure and demeanor at all times. Promote the vision, mission, and core values of the College. Additional Qualifications Considered Prior teaching experience is desirable, but not essential; candidates must demonstrate evidence of teaching potential. Face‑to‑face instruction is the default mode; distance learning may be approved under the College’s Distance Learning Policy.
