Position Summary
The Director of Placements, Commercial Lines, will lead marketing personnel, processes, and systems to optimize placement strategies. This role is responsible for driving carrier relationships, collaborating on new and renewal business strategies, and managing the submission pipeline to ensure high-quality and timely market placement.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Collaboration: Collaborate with producers, marketing staff, and support team members on new and renewal business strategies, while effectively assigning marketing team responsibilities.
- Carrier Relationship Management: Provide a dedicated focus on developing successful carrier relationships, including coordinating and participating in local meetings and events, and participating in annual planning meetings with major carriers.
- Market Oversight: Monitor wholesale utilization to ensure the usage of preferred relationships whenever possible.
- Book Management: Monitor books of business not placed through the marketing team, stepping in to manage or address issues and concerns as they arise.
- Departmental Engagement: Attend Sales and Marketing Department Meetings and collaborate with Commercial Lines management to establish departmental goals and strategy.
- Risk Escalation: Accountable for deciding when it is appropriate to escalate a risk within an insurance company or to the executive management team for involvement.
- Pipeline & Quality Control: Effectively monitor and manage turnaround times and the quality of submissions and quotes passing through the department.
- Contract Administration: Coordinate, review, and process all carrier and intermediary contracts.
- Market Intelligence: Keep current with industry trends, insurance company changes, coverage developments, and carrier appetite information, ensuring seamless dissemination to Commercial Lines personnel.
- Team Leadership: Manage marketing personnel, processes, and systems, including supervising, hiring, training, coaching, administering disciplinary actions, and completing annual performance reviews.
- Sales Support: Assist Producers with oral presentations as needed.
- Adaptability: Perform other responsibilities as assigned to support the organization's evolving needs.
Desired Education, Skills, and Experience
- Education: A college degree is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of seven years of experience in marketing or underwriting with a national or regional broker or carrier.
- Licensing: A Property & Casualty license (such as a FL 2-20) is preferred.
- Account Management: Demonstrated ability to manage middle-market property and casualty accounts, and effectively market to carriers and customers.
- Relationship Building: Proven track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with customers and prospects.
- Industry Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of commercial lines coverages and markets.
- Core Competencies: Excellent organizational skills with precise attention to detail, and a keen ability to self-manage amidst competing priorities.
- Professionalism: Ability to maintain a professional manner at all times within an experienced, fast-paced team environment.
- Technical Skills: Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and additional Microsoft products; working knowledge of AMS360 and ImageRight is a major plus.
