Assistant Controller — Sequoia Property Management | Mount Kisco, NY

Sequoia Property Management is a family-owned firm managing condominiums, cooperatives, and homeowners associations, along with select rental and commercial properties, across New York City, Westchester County, and Fairfield County, Connecticut.

\n

\n

We're building out our finance team, and this is the senior seat. The Assistant Controller owns our accounting function day to day and works directly with ownership. For the right person, this is a role with a clear path toward CFO — we'd rather hire someone who wants that than someone looking for a steady-state job.

What you'll do

\n

\n

\n
• Own the monthly close and produce financial statement packages for every property we manage
\n
• Prepare board and owner reporting, and present at board meetings as needed
\n
• Build annual operating budgets alongside our property managers, and track performance against them through the year
\n
• Manage cash across building operating and reserve accounts
\n
• Run bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and journal entry review
\n
• Prepare year-end audit packages and serve as the primary contact for outside CPAs
\n
• Oversee AP and AR workflows, and review the work of our Staff Accountant
\n
• Strengthen internal controls and tighten our close process as the portfolio grows
\n
• Handle real estate tax, insurance, and mortgage escrow tracking across the portfolio
\n

What we're looking for

\n

\n

\n
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
\n
• 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including controller-level or assistant controller work
\n
• Property management or real estate accounting experience strongly preferred; direct co-op, condo, or HOA experience is a significant advantage
\n
• Working knowledge of property management accounting software — we run Property Boulevard; experience with Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, or a comparable system transfers well — plus QuickBooks and strong Excel
\n
• Solid GAAP foundation and real ownership of a monthly close
\n
• Experience supervising or reviewing another accountant's work
\n
• CPA a plus, not required
\n
• Comfort dealing directly with boards, owners, and vendors — this is not a back-office-only role
\n
