Position Title : Assistant Controller

Step into a senior accounting leadership role where you will have a direct hand in scaling a growing multifamily real estate platform. We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to lead property accounting operations across a sophisticated New York City portfolio. This role will oversee the close process, property-level financial reporting, remote accounting teams, regulatory filings, and Yardi, while partnering closely with leadership and Asset Management to strengthen processes as the portfolio continues to grow.

The ideal candidate brings deep real estate accounting experience, hands-on NYC multifamily knowledge, and the confidence to independently review financials, manage competing priorities, and lead teams across multiple locations. This is a strong fit for an organized, collaborative accounting leader who wants meaningful ownership, visibility, and long-term growth within property accounting.

Salary Range: $160,000 - $195,000 / Year, DOE

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple properties and entities
• Review and approve property-level financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP
• Onboard new properties in Yardi and oversee the opening and closing of property books
• Manage and mentor remote property accounting teams while partnering with senior accounting professionals in the New York office
• Oversee bank, security deposit, tax, and intercompany reconciliations across the portfolio
• Partner with Asset Management on variance analysis, NOI drivers, and property-level financial performance
• Lead preparation and review of NYC regulatory filings, including RPIE filings and Tax Commission/certiorari support
• Independently review and sign off on property-level financial statements and RPIE filings
• Serve as a key Yardi resource and help improve accounting systems, reporting, and internal processes
• Build and enhance financial reporting and analysis using Microsoft Excel
• Communicate effectively with property managers, accountants, clients, and internal stakeholders while prioritizing a high volume of competing requests

Requirements

• 8-10 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 8 years of real estate accounting experience
• Minimum 1-2 years of NYC multifamily real estate experience
• Previous accounting leadership or management experience
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and property-level financial reporting
• Minimum 2-3 years of hands-on Yardi or comparable ERP experience, with Yardi strongly preferred
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and ability to successfully complete a technical Excel assessment
• Exceptional organization, prioritization, and communication skills
• Ability to manage a high-volume workload while maintaining accuracy and accountability
