Position Overview

We are seeking a highly sophisticated, systems-minded Staff Product Engineer to join our fully remote engineering collective. In this senior individual contributor leadership role, you will take absolute technical ownership of the software architectures governing money at scale: high-throughput financial ledgers, transactional reconciliation engines, payment rails, and carrier settlement workflows. Operating alongside internal Product, Finance, and Operations executives, you will engineer bank-agnostic systems where transactional inaccuracy carries real consequence and end-to-end auditability is completely non-negotiable. This seat demands a seasoned backend master who can articulate complex architectural patterns, enforce robust design reviews, and establish defensive codebases capable of supporting our next rapid phase of user expansion.

Key Responsibilities

• Payments & Financial Infrastructure Ownership: Design, optimize, and maintain high-availability systems that move and track capital, including automated payment processors, multi-rail bank ledgering, and vendor invoicing loops.
• Bank-Agnostic Architecture Scaling: Construct resilient, multi-tenant backend architectures capable of integrating seamlessly with diverse external banking partners, credit networks, and financial data providers.
• Data Integrity & Idempotency Governance: Guarantee flawless transactional correctness, exact tracing parameters, and complete mathematical traceability across all backend microservices from day one.
• Technical & Architectural Leadership: Drive core systems decisions across cross-functional engineering cells, establishing strict coding benchmarks, review standards, and scalable distributed system workflows.
• Regulated Compliance Engineering: Build, audit, and secure platform features that fully satisfy international and state regulatory parameters, including HIPAA compliance, SOC 2 audits, and PCI-DSS data controls .
• Asynchronous SQS & Messaging Calibration: Calibrate and monitor event-driven processing layers, streaming nodes, and asynchronous queue environments using Python, Celery, Kafka, and AWS SQS .
• Cross-Functional Platform Partnerships: Coordinate with corporate Legal and Compliance squads to transform complex regulatory requirements into durable, repeatable backend software configurations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 8+ years of verified professional history running complex backend software development, distributed systems creation, or core fintech programming pipelines.
• Demonstrated experience operating at a Staff Engineer level or an equivalent high-scale senior individual contributor capacity.
• Expert-tier backend engineering proficiency coding with Python , paired with an advanced, masterly command over Django and Django REST Framework .
• Extensive experience modeling and maintaining high-availability distributed engines, event-driven architectures, and complex asynchronous message processing components.
• Advanced data design literacy, highlighting deep expertise running PostgreSQL relational databases, schema architectures, and transaction optimization routines.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication mechanics, with a proven ability to influence technical decisions and align engineers across multiple product pods without formal authority.

• Prior experience scaling financial technology or insurtech platforms that process significant annual transaction volumes or corporate payroll cycles.
• Hands-on experience deploying modular cloud architecture blueprints via Infrastructure as Code concepts within Amazon Web Services (AWS) ecosystems.
• Familiarity deploying systems utilizing Domain-Driven Design (DDD) methodologies and strict Test-Driven Development (TDD) validation loops.
• Blight frontend familiarity contributing layout updates using JavaScript, TypeScript, React, or Vue.js when full-stack features require cross-boundary assistance.
