A venture‑backed startup building a modern communications platform for the restaurant industry is seeking a Founding Engineer to help build and scale the company from an early stage. The company develops SMS messaging, customer engagement, and marketing automation software that enables restaurants to communicate with customers, increase repeat business, and streamline operations. Leadership is looking for someone who wants to build a company—not simply write code. The ideal candidate has worked at an early‑stage SaaS startup, helped scale engineering organizations, and understands what it takes to ship products quickly while building a platform that can support significant growth. Experience participating in a successful acquisition or major scale‑up is highly preferred. This role combines engineering leadership, product thinking, architecture, hiring, and day‑to‑day software development. Responsibilities Own technical strategy and engineering execution Design scalable backend architecture and infrastructure Lead product development from idea to production Build alongside a small engineering team Establish engineering standards and development processes Recruit and help build the engineering organization Collaborate directly with founders on product direction and company strategy Make technology decisions that support long‑term growth Balance rapid execution with maintainable architecture Manage cloud infrastructure and production deployments Participate in customer discussions when technical expertise is needed Required Experience 6+ years of professional software engineering experience Experience working at an early‑stage SaaS company or high‑growth startup Experience leading engineering teams or serving as a technical lead Experience building production software used by paying customers Comfortable making technical decisions independently Strong communication and leadership skills Preferred Experience Previous CTO or Founding Engineer experience Helped scale a SaaS company from early stage through meaningful growth Experience participating in a successful acquisition or exit Experience building messaging, communications, CRM, or marketing technology AWS Rust Next.js TypeScript Docker
