A $750 sign-on bonus is being offered to eligible new employees hired into our PCA positions. The Center for Operative Care (CPC) is a 33-bed unit. In collaboration with the nursing team, the Patient Care Associate (PCA) assists in preparing patients for surgery and recovering patients who are going home on the same day as their surgery. The CPC also cares for a small population of psychiatry patients receiving ECT treatments. It is a fast paced unit with approximately 120 patients per day coming through the unit for elective surgery and about 60 - 70 patients who recover and go home after surgery. Experience working in patient care/elder care 0-1 years preferred.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA) supports the multidisciplinary healthcare team in providing safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care. PCA assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support, while promoting comfort and maintaining patient dignity. Responsibilities also include monitoring and documenting vital signs, obtaining EKGs, drawing blood, and responding promptly to patient requests while safeguarding confidentiality and always ensuring patient safety.

Essential Functions:

• Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intake, and output measurements accurately and within established timeframes and/or as requested
• Completes all required documentation in the medical record
• Interact effectively with patients and families
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and toileting
• Assist patients with turning, repositioning, and transferring between bed and wheelchair as needed
• Listen to patient concerns and reports changes or concerns to nursing staff promptly

Qualifications:

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No

Licenses and Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification preferred
• Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification) preferred
• Emergency Medical Technician Basic (Massachusetts) preferred
• Nursing Assistant (LNA Massachusetts) preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Strong patient/customer service skills
• Ability to lift to 35 pounds
• Proficient computer skills and ability to navigate electronic medical records efficiently.
