Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Step into a meaningful career shaping the lives of students as a Special Education Teacher working onsite for the 2026-2027 academic year. Multiple positions are available for dedicated educators passionate about supporting diverse learners, with needs ranging from Cognitive Impairment (K-12), Emotional Impairment (Middle School), to Resource Classrooms (LD, EI, CI endorsements welcome). Classrooms are self-contained, averaging no more than 22 students per class, and you’ll be part of vibrant teams in urban schools within easily accessible locations near Grand Blanc, Lansing, Detroit, and Fenton, MI.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, ideally with endorsements in Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitively Impaired (CI), Learning Disabilities (LD), or MDE endorsement ZA (Early Childhood) plus another area of Special Education.
- Experience in urban education settings, or a deep understanding of challenges faced by urban youth.
- Familiarity with Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and related IDEA federal regulations.
- Compassion, leadership, and flexibility to address students’ unique educational, behavioral, and emotional needs.
- Ability to provide documentation, including official university transcripts.
- Comfortable with a caseload that may vary to meet current needs.
Role Responsibilities:
- Foster inclusive, supportive classroom environments for students with diverse disabilities.
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals, educational teams, and behavior specialists for holistic student support.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's requirements.
- Engage actively in professional development, training, and mentorship opportunities.
- Communicate effectively with families, staff, and outside agencies to maximize student progress.
- Uphold best practices and compliance with special education guidelines and policies.
