Travel RN – Heart & Vascular Institute (Stepdown/Floor)

Unit: 10 Southeast – Heart & Vascular Institute

• Total Beds: 32 private rooms
  • 22 Stepdown beds
  • 12 Medical/Surgical floor beds

Patient Ratios

• Stepdown: 1 RN : 3 patients
• Floor: 1 RN : 6 patients

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS

Required Experience

• Recent Cardiac and/or Vascular nursing experience is required.

Patient PopulationCardiac Surgery

• CABG
• MIDCAB
• MAZE procedures
• Valve replacements
• Tendyne procedures
• MitraClip
• LVAD
• Heart transplant patients
• TAVR
• Complex cardiac surgery cases

Vascular Surgery

• AAA repairs
• Carotid Endarterectomy (CEA)
• Femoral bypass
• Angiograms
• Amputations

Cardiology

• STEMI
• NSTEMI
• Heart failure
• Watchman procedures
• Cardiac catheterization recovery
• PTCA/Stents
• ICD placement
• Ablations
• Pacemakers

Clinical SkillsDrip Management

RNs are expected to titrate medications including:

• Heparin
• Amiodarone
• Cardizem
• TPA
• Lasix
• Dobutamine

Unit Support

• Charge Nurse on every shift
• House Supervisors available 24/7
• Clinical Associates (CNAs)
  • Goal staffing: 4–5 CAs per shift
  • Approximate ratio: 1 CA : 8–10 patients

Respiratory Support

Patients may require:

• CPAP
• BiPAP
• High-Flow Oxygen

Telemetry

• Continuous telemetry monitoring
• Central Monitor Technicians (CMTs) are housed on the unit and interpret telemetry strips

Schedule

• Night Shift
• Three 12-hour shifts per week

Weekend & Holiday Requirements

• Every other weekend
• Holiday rotation required

Floating

• May float to Heart & Vascular Institute sister units

Call

• No mandatory call
• Overtime opportunities available

Dress Code

• Solid Royal Blue and White scrubs
