Position Summary

The Fabricator is responsible for producing and assembling fabricated components safely, accurately, and efficiently in support of Fab Shop and production requirements. This hands-on role utilizes a variety of shop tools, equipment, drawings, measurements, and work instructions to cut, drill, form, fit, finish, and assemble parts to specification.

The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical aptitude and practical experience across multiple fabrication and production processes. Prior assembly experience is highly valued, as this position requires understanding part fit, orientation, fastening methods, and downstream build requirements rather than performing a single machine operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Read and follow blueprints, shop drawings, work instructions, bills of material, and production specifications.

• Measure, mark, lay out, and verify materials using tape measures, squares, calipers, gauges, templates, and other measuring tools.

• Safely operate fabrication equipment and hand or power tools, including saws, drills, drill presses, grinders, sanders, shears, brakes, punches, and fastening equipment.

• Cut, drill, form, notch, grind, deburr, and finish metal or other production materials to required dimensions and quality standards.

• Fit and assemble fabricated parts using mechanical fasteners, adhesives, fixtures, clamps, and other approved assembly methods.

• Set up work areas, select appropriate tooling, and make routine process adjustments within established operating standards.

• Perform welding-related work only when qualified and assigned.

• Inspect completed work for dimensional accuracy, fit, finish, workmanship, and conformance to specifications before releasing parts to the next operation.

• Identify nonconforming materials, equipment issues, or unclear work instructions and escalate concerns before additional work is completed.

• Maintain accurate production counts, material identification, traceability records, and required shop documentation.

• Maintain tools, fixtures, and work areas through daily inspections, cleaning, preventive maintenance, and 5S practices.

• Support cross-training initiatives, assembly work, rework activities, and shifting Fab Shop priorities as needed.

Additional Requirements

• Follow all company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, PPE requirements, and ethical business practices.

• Inspect tools and equipment before use and immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged tooling, missing guards, or equipment malfunctions.

• Utilize proper lifting techniques and approved material handling equipment while protecting material identification and preventing damaged or mixed parts.

• Communicate material shortages, drawing discrepancies, quality concerns, and production barriers promptly to Fab Shop leadership.

• Participate in training, cross-training, continuous improvement initiatives, standardized work processes, and 5S activities.

• Maintain dependable attendance and flexibility to support changing production priorities.

Physical and Work Environment Expectations

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.

• Ability to lift and move materials in accordance with company safety guidelines.

• Ability to work safely in a manufacturing and fabrication environment where exposure to noise, dust, machinery, and varying temperatures may occur.

• Consistent use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
