The Office of the District Attorney is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy District Attorney II - Consumer Protection Unit . Future Salary Increases: June 2027 – 7.62% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 4.62% Market Adjustment) Civil litigation experience, or work with Regulatory or Licensing agencies, is highly desirable. This recruitment will be used to focus on filling upcoming positions within the Consumer Protection Unit of the District Attorney’s Office. The eligibility list from this recruitment may also be used to fill future positions in other units so long as the eligibility list remains valid. This is series recruitment that will be suspended on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. About the Position: Deputy District Attorney II is the second entry level class of the series. Under general supervision, incumbents prepare and try criminal or civil cases in the Superior Court; interview complainants and witnesses with regard to prospective criminal or civil prosecutions and prepare pleadings and other papers in connection with suits, trials, hearings, and other legal procedures. Hiring Timeline & Dates: The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below. Job Offer and Background Process begins shortly after the interviews conclude. Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results. Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date. Minimum Qualifications: Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California; AND, One (1) year of experience as a Deputy District Attorney I in the County of San Diego, or at an equivalent level with another California county or California city prosecutorial agency; OR, Two (2) years of experience as an attorney in the practice of criminal and/or civil law. In addition to the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire, applicants must attach the following: Resume Cover Letter List of at least three (3) professional references with contact information Condition of Employment: As part of the County of San Diego’s pre‑employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre‑employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job‑related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process. Evaluation: Qualified applicants will be placed on a nine‑month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications.
