Job Summary:

The Director of Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for Spartan Pool & Patio’s construction division, including sales, design, pre-construction, project management, field operations, subcontractor performance, and project delivery. This role is accountable for division performance, revenue growth, profitability, operational efficiency, customer experience, safety, quality, and team development. The Director aligns people, processes, financial goals, and resources to ensure the full Design-Build pipeline moves efficiently from lead intake and design consultation through proposal, contract, production, completion, and closeout.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Design-Build division, including sales, design, estimating, pre-construction, project management, construction management, field operations including new construction, remodel and liner crews, and subcontractor partnerships.

·       Own division-level performance, including revenue, gross margin, net profitability, labor efficiency, overhead management, backlog, production capacity, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.

·       Develop and execute operational strategies, annual goals, budgets, forecasts, KPIs, staffing plans, and growth initiatives that support company objectives and long-term scalability.

·       Lead and develop department leaders, including sales, design, project management, construction management, superintendent, crew lead, and field leadership roles, while building accountability and leadership depth across the division.

·       Ensure alignment between sales commitments, design deliverables, estimates, contracts, project scopes, production schedules, resource planning, and customer expectations before work moves into construction.

·       Oversee the full project lifecycle for new pool builds, remodels, renovations, liner replacement, equipment installations, hardscape coordination, and outdoor living projects from lead intake through closeout.

·       Establish, monitor, and improve performance metrics related to sales conversion, design throughput, estimating accuracy, project cycle time, schedule adherence, job costing, change orders, production efficiency, quality, safety, and customer experience.

·       Evaluate organizational structure, staffing needs, leadership capacity, compensation considerations, systems, vendor relationships, and resource allocation to support operational growth and improved profitability.

·       Partner with ownership and senior leadership to identify market opportunities, expansion needs, capacity constraints, operational investments, process improvements, and risk mitigation strategies.

·       Drive accountability through leadership meetings, scorecards, departmental reviews, project reviews, labor and margin analysis, customer feedback, and continuous improvement initiatives.

·       Ensure construction operations meet company standards for safety, craftsmanship, communication, documentation, project readiness, job site execution, punch list completion, and customer satisfaction.

·       Champion a high-performance culture rooted in ownership, accountability, leadership development, collaboration, operational discipline, customer service, and continuous improvement.

·       Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education

o   Bachelor’s degree in business, operations management, construction management, or a related field; preferred

o   Equivalent combination of education and relevant leadership experience may be considered

Experience

o   5+ years of operations leadership experience in construction, design-build, specialty trades, residential construction, outdoor living, pool construction, or a related industry; preferred

o   Proven experience leading multiple functional areas, including sales, design, estimating, project management, construction management, field operations, and subcontractor relationships; preferred

o   Demonstrated responsibility for departmental budgets, forecasting, profit and loss performance, margin improvement, strategic planning, and organizational leadership; preferred

o   Experience developing leaders, building scalable systems, improving operational processes, and managing change across cross-functional teams; required

o   Pool construction, outdoor living, residential construction, remodeling, trades, or specialty construction experience; strongly preferred

Technical Skills

o   Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets, forecasts, job costing, labor efficiency, gross margin, profitability, backlog, and operational performance metrics; required

o   Advanced understanding of construction scheduling, project management, change orders, quality control, process improvement, production planning, and operational systems; preferred

o   Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, calendar, CRM, project management, service management, and accounting or job costing systems; required

o   Working knowledge of pool construction phases, pool equipment, hydraulics, excavation, plumbing, electrical coordination, shotcrete/gunite, decking, plaster, startup, or related trades; preferred

Physical Requirements:  

·       Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout office, warehouse, construction yard, job site, and customer-facing environments as needed

·       Ability to visit active construction sites and navigate uneven ground, outdoor conditions, equipment staging areas, and partially completed project areas

·       Ability to look at a screen for extended periods of time

·       Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities, project timelines, and field issues simultaneously

·       Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move items up to 25 pounds

Working Conditions:

·       Combination of office-based leadership and regular field presence at active construction job sites, customer properties, warehouse areas, vendor locations, and company facilities

·       May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, construction noise, dust, equipment, materials, and active job site activity during site visits

·       May require travel between company locations, job sites, vendors, subcontractors, inspection offices, or customer locations

·       Construction schedules and seasonal workload fluctuations may require schedule flexibility

Pay Type:

·       Salary; based on qualifications and experience

Position Type:

·       Full-Time: Monday – Friday; schedule may vary based on construction timelines, inspections, subcontractor availability, weather, staffing, projects, and business needs

·       Occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends may be required for job site needs, emergency situations, peak season demands, or special projects
