Medical Laboratory Scientist II – North Bergen, NJ – Every Other Weekend, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Quest Diagnostics is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist II in North Bergen, NJ. This hospital-based position is located at Palisades. Pay range: $33.00 - $47.50 per hour. Salary offers consider skills, training, experience, education, certifications, and organizational factors. Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring independent judgement and responsibility in the specialties in which you are qualified. Responsibilities Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and trouble‑shoot all applicable instruments/procedures. Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects as assigned. Perform and report assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs ensuring quality control requirements are met. Actively support and comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance. Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time, including stats or critical results to clients. Ensure reagents and test kits have receipt dates, expiration dates, and opened dates if applicable. Document QC analysis to ensure data accuracy and instrument function; make QC dispositions as needed. Inform supervisory personnel of all problems affecting test performance. Report any actual or potential deviation from standard testing procedures and cooperate fully with investigations. Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate. Assist the supervisor with training other laboratory personnel. Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed. Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel if applicable. Participate in government or regulatory inspections if needed. In the absence of a supervisor, assume lead responsibilities if qualified and delegated. Other duties as assigned. This is a general description of work performed by the position. Required Work Experience One year of full-time experience or training in high-complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting. Preferred Work Experience Minimum of 3 years clinical experience, with most recent year in the present department. Physical and Mental Requirements Lifting and carrying: 1–10 lb frequently; 11–25 lb occasionally; 36–50 lb seldom; >50 lb not without assistance. Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods. Frequent walking and/or standing. Use a variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments requiring manual dexterity. Knowledge Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty. Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures. BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology, or Associate’s degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previous qualification as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published March 14, 1990). Foreign-educated candidates must provide a credential evaluation from IERF; US-educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript. Other state-specific requirements may apply.
