Position Overview

A law firm is seeking an experienced Paralegal to support attorneys on a variety of civil defense matters, including automobile negligence, trucking litigation, premises liability, and school board defense. The role involves supporting cases throughout all phases of litigation, from case development through trial.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and organize case files, including obtaining, reviewing, summarizing, and maintaining key documents.
• Support discovery by drafting discovery requests and pleadings, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
• Organize document production and index records.
• Review, analyze, and summarize medical records; prepare detailed medical chronologies and narrative summaries.
• Assist with deposition and discovery investigations, prepare deposition summaries and exhibit indexes, and coordinate with witnesses, experts, and investigators.
• Coordinate with attorneys regarding case deadlines, depositions, mediations, and hearings.
• Prepare trial materials, including trial notebooks, exhibits, witness and exhibit disclosures, and demonstrative aids.
• Prepare PowerPoint presentations for mediations and attend mediations and trials alongside attorneys.
• Travel as needed to attend depositions, meet with witnesses, and visit accident scenes or evidence locations.
• Use and maintain case management and litigation support tools.
• Track billable time in accordance with client guidelines and firm procedures.
• Collaborate with attorneys and team members on case strategy and trial preparation.
• Help train new hires and provide team coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• At least five years of experience in a law firm environment, preferably in civil defense.
• Associate's or bachelor's degree, with paralegal certification or equivalent experience.
• Ability to produce accurate, high-quality work within required timeframes.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general office technology.
• Experience with legal software, including document management and timekeeping systems, preferred.
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
• Ability and willingness to work extended hours, including evenings and occasional weekends, as required.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
