Financial Assistance Advisor - Part Time

Position Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a part-time Financial Assistance Advisor for the Outpatient Services – Newark within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. The primary purpose of the part-time Financial Assistance Advisor is to be responsible for the registration process for the UBHC Outpatient Programs. Responsibilities Interviews the patient and/or relatives and assists in the completing all required registration forms. Obtains necessary demographic and financial information prior to treatment. Obtains copies of the customer's insurance cards and identification prior to treatment. Reviews patient insurance information that was verified prior to patients' appointment. Forwards patients' registration packages to Clinical Records to achieve a complete Medical Records folder. Reviews the online Medicaid site for patients without health insurance benefits (self‑pay patients) to determine if the patient has qualified for Medicaid coverage. Enters completed insurance data into revenue cycle system. Completes requirement tracking when a client is initially registered and/or routinely updated. Minimum Education and Experience Two (2) to three (3) years of progressively more responsible clerical experience, one (1) year of which must have been in a physician's office, hospital billing office or insurance company which involved billing and collection or medical insurance activities. Physical Demands and Work Environment PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires standing under 1/3 of the time, walking to under 1/3 of the time, sitting to over 2/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle, or feel over 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms under 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Requires lifting up to 10 pounds under 1/3 of the time. Special vision requirements of close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus). WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Exposure to fumes or airborne particles under 1/3 of the time and toxic or caustic chemicals under 1/3 of the time.
