Associate Attorney

Full Time or Part Time | Hybrid | New York, NY Berke-Weiss Law is a boutique, women-owned employment law firm in New York City, representing both employees and employers. Associates here take on real ownership of their matters early, with direct mentorship from partners along the way. We're a team of six partners, associates, and staff who collaborate closely, take initiative, and hold each other to a high bar. We are a firm where good work and a sustainable pace aren't in tension, and where we take pride in providing thoughtful, sensitive, expert counsel to every client. We're looking for an entrepreneurial-minded attorney, admitted to practice in New York State, ready to run with that kind of responsibility. What You'll Do You'll counsel clients directly, often through reviewing and negotiating employment and severance agreements, and handle litigation from intake through resolution, whether in court, before administrative agencies, or in mediations. You'll draft demand letters, position statements, pleadings, and discovery, working alongside partners, an office manager, and a legal assistant rather than in a silo. You'll own the timelines on your own matters, and be responsible for deciding when to bring in a partner and when to run with a matter yourself. Who We're Looking For Someone with two to four years of litigation or client-counseling experience, admitted to practice in New York State, who has taken real ownership of their matters, whether that's depositions and motions or negotiating and drafting agreements directly with clients. Employment law experience, especially with NYC, New York State, and federal discrimination, is ideal, but we're just as open to strong litigators or counselors from other practice areas who ramp up quickly. You write clearly, work independently, and know when to loop in a partner. Compensation $105,000 to $120,000 annually for full-time candidates, or $55 to $65 per hour for part-time candidates, commensurate with experience. Full-time associates receive twelve vacation days, five sick days, and ten firm holidays; a hybrid schedule with up to two remote days per week; medical insurance; a 401(k) with employer contribution when eligible; and bar fees, association memberships, and CLE classes covered by the firm. Part-time associates are compensated hourly, and may be eligible for some or all the above benefits depending on the details of their employment.
