Job Title: Lead Composite Layup Technician Job Description

The Lead Composite Layup Technician will be responsible for performing and overseeing aerospace composite layup, fabrication, and assembly in accordance with engineering drawings, ply books, work instructions, and quality requirements. This hands-on leadership role provides daily direction, training, and technical support to junior technicians while ensuring safe work practices, high-quality craftsmanship, production efficiency, and compliance with established processes.

• Perform and oversee hand layup of composite materials, including prepregs, fabrics, adhesives, and films onto molds and tooling.
• Interpret work orders, travelers, cure specifications, and drawings to create or select the correct cure cycle recipe.
• Coordinate the cutting, kitting, staging, and proper handling of composite materials according to job requirements.
• Direct daily fabrication activities to support production schedules, priorities, and workflow.
• Ensure technicians follow applicable ply books, travelers, engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
• Provide hands-on technical direction during layup, assembly, and fabrication operations.
• Verify proper fiber orientation, ply sequence, material placement, and part configuration.
• Perform and oversee the application of resins, adhesives, bonding films, and other approved materials.
• Perform and supervise vacuum bagging, debulking, and preparation of composite components for curing.
• Monitor material handling controls, including freezer life, out-time tracking, shelf-life requirements, cleanliness, and contamination controls.
• Monitor work in progress and address fabrication or process issues before components proceed to the next manufacturing stage.
• Identify quality discrepancies and coordinate appropriate corrective or rework actions with Quality and management.
• Ensure manufacturing, traceability, and production documentation is completed accurately and on time.
• Provide daily guidance and work direction to technicians and assist with workload distribution.
• Support employee development, cross-training, onboarding, and development of fabrication skills.
• Communicate production status, material requirements, quality concerns, schedule issues, and other operational matters to management.
• Promote compliance with company safety, environmental, quality-system, and manufacturing requirements.
• Support process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives within the fabrication area.
• Lead by example and maintain high standards.

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in aerospace composite layup, fabrication, assembly, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience working with aerospace composite materials and pre-cure manufacturing processes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, ply books, travelers, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize proper fabrication techniques and identify potential workmanship or process concerns.
• Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and mechanical aptitude.
• Proficient in basic math, measurements, and dimensional requirements.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions within established procedures.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Production, Quality, Engineering, and other departments.
• Demonstrated reliability, dependability, initiative, and professional judgment.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe, organized, and quality-focused work environment.

• Does not need experience as a Lead but must have great tenure within composites.
• Good communication skills due to training new hires.
• Ability to oversee 8-10 employees within the department.
• High degree of craftsmanship and ability to consistently produce quality workmanship.
• Ability to work effectively in controlled manufacturing environments, including cleanrooms and areas requiring PPE.

The work is conducted in an industrial manufacturing site where you will be expected to wear t-shirts, jeans, and tennis shoes. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with the possibility of overtime.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Anaheim, CA.

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $42.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Anaheim,CA.
