Small Animal Emergency Service Technician (ANML HEALTH TCHN 3 VMTH)

Job Summary Under guidance of the Small Animal ER/CC Faculty, Shift Supervisors and Manager, the Shift Supervisor provides emergency and critical care nursing to small animal patients and technical support to clinicians, staff, and students. The role also delivers quasi‑instruction to students, offers temporary support to other VMTH departments, and maintains facility operations. The position lasts 10 months from hire with possible extension. Key Responsibilities 55% – Patient Care 35% – Clinician Assist 10% – Student Instruction Qualifications **Minimum Qualifications** Must possess a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) or obtain within 3 months of hire. No minimum education required. Experience independently providing intensive moment‑to‑moment monitoring and reassessment of emergent or critically ill patients. Experience in oral and written communication with clients. Experience working in a small animal clinic as a veterinary assistant. Experience using patient monitoring equipment. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to recognize and manage difficult situations. **Preferred Qualifications** Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license. Experience working in an emergency critical care setting as a veterinary assistant. Experience with placement catheters. Department Overview The Small Animal Patient Critical Care and Emergency Service Medicine Service at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital provides 24/7 care for cats and dogs. Veterinarians and technicians operate around the clock to monitor and care for patients, led by board‑certified faculty specialists. Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $31.32 – $47.40 per hour.
