Description:
Unit consists of 37 beds, a combination of private and semi-private rooms.
Day shift nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6.
Night shift nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6.
Patient care includes telemetry monitoring, with central monitor tech support.
Common diagnoses include COPD, sepsis, CVA, COVID, pneumonia, and various surgical procedures.
Patients may require BIPAP, CPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy.
Charge nurses are typically available 24/7 and may take patient assignments if needed.
Certified nursing assistants will support nurses on the floor with a staffing ratio of 1:10-15.
Shifts are structured as 12-hour, with day shift from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM and night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
Weekend scheduling requires working every other weekend.
Holidays may be required based on scheduling needs.
No specific scrub colors are mandated; approved logo gear may also be worn.
Floating to other floors may occur based on competency, and the nurse will take a full patient assignment when doing so.
Floor-specific orientation includes two days in the department.
Nursing support includes RT availability 24/7 and pharmacy support with daytime staff and ePharmacist access.
The unit does not handle ventilator patients, but does care for patients requiring non-invasive respiratory support.
OT is not a requirement.
