This position is eligible for telework ( for applicants who reside in Minnesota or in a bordering state, with supervisory approval and satisfactory performance. The Nursing Facility Auditor will conduct desk and field audits of nursing facility cost reports, apply state and federal reimbursement requirements and generally accepted accounting principles to reported costs in order to develop adjustments and support accurate rate setting for Medicaid-enrolled nursing facilities. As part of a team of auditors, responsibilities include:

• Complete assigned audit work

• Prepare supporting documentation for adjustments to reported costs

• Communicate findings to nursing facilities

• Resolve related nursing facility objections

• Escalating complex matters to senior auditors or the supervisor

• Contribute to data analysis, provide analysis of special nursing home payments, policy interpretation, and improvements to audit procedures to ensure consistent and compliant reimbursement practices

Minimum Qualifications

2 years professional experience in audit methods and documentation standards. Experience must include the following:

• Experience with accounting and audit principles and practices, including financial statements and cost reporting and generally accepted accounting principles

• Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to Medicaid nursing facility reimbursement

• Experience with spreadsheet and database tools used for financial analysis

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Human Services, Public Policy or related field may substitute for 1 year of professional experience OR Master's degree in Accounting, Human Services, Public Policy or related field may substitute for 2 years of experience

• Interpret rules, statutes, and policies and apply them to audit work

• Communicate clearly in writing and verbally with providers, accountants, and internal staff

• Organize and document work in a clear, logical, and accurate manner

• Work independently on routine tasks and seek guidance on complex issues

• Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and/or cultures
