Position Summary To serve as a member of a Student Evaluation and Support Services (SESS) Team in a program offering psychological, social, sensory, and educational services to children ages 3-22. The SESS Team will service children through the Child Search Office, in non-public school settings, in direct-operated and charter schools in the OPSB’s LEA. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Functions as evaluation coordinator for designated referred students; Facilitates the Student Assistance Team (SATeam) process by participating as a representative of the Student Evaluation & Support Services team in providing feedback on best practices in the student assistance team process; Explains and interprets assessment services/findings to parents, teachers, principals, and other appropriate personnel; Implements and/or assists teachers and other school personnel in the design and implementation of educational / behavioral interventions for support and / or related services to clients; Provides a written report of any academic/behavioral support services provided to clients; Attends the Tier III data meetings to participate in the development of evidence-based interventions and to assist in the analysis of the plans’ effectiveness; Evaluates as a Student Evaluation & Support Services member and in accordance with Bulletin 1508, the Pupil Appraisal Handbook, and the NASW ethical standards those students suspected of being exceptional. Evaluations include activities such as family interviews and the administration of home and school adaptive behavior assessments, when appropriate in order to determine the impact of developmental, educational, social/emotional, cultural, and / or health factors on students’ educational performance; Serves as a member of the Child Search Team by conducting cognitive/developmental screenings, family interviews, and adaptive assessments when appropriate; Participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) staffing or Services Plan Meetings when appropriate. Confers with parents, teachers, principals, the director of special education and other district professional staff whenever necessary on matters relative to assessment, academic/behavioral interventions, exceptional children, learning, teaching strategies, classroom management, Tier III evidence-based Interventions and other areas of responsibility or expertise of the appraisal social worker; Maintains a caseload of students and provides direct services to students and families in childcare centers as needed; Provides or assists in the provision of in-service training of school personnel and parents on such topics as pupil appraisal services, special education eligibility criteria, exceptional children, classroom management, intervention strategies/ techniques, Response to Intervention process, parent effectiveness training, child abuse, community resources, and other areas of expertise; Cooperates with personnel of community health and social service agencies; Assists in maintaining accurate case records on all clients in accordance with the requirements of local, state, and federal laws, regulations and/or policies; Attends assigned staff, professional, and interagency meetings in order to remain informed of new developments in the areas related to the evaluation and support services process; and Performs such other duties as may be required. Education and Experience Master’s Degree in Social Work required; Valid Louisiana Ancillary Certificate; Licensed Clinical Social Worker with expertise in administering and interpreting diagnostic techniques used with all types of exceptional children. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required Must possess basic computer skills and demonstrate the ability to use various types of software programs; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to special education; Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies. Performance Evaluation The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS/LEADS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS/LEADS to ensure renewal of certification.
