An exciting opportunity awaits an experienced School Social Worker in the New Orleans area. This contract position provides a chance to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment supporting students' educational journeys. The assignment runs from ASAP through late May 2027, with a full-time schedule (35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, following the district's school calendar).
In this specialized role within the Pupil Appraisal Department, you'll focus on comprehensive student evaluations rather than the typical direct social work services. Your engagement will be key in determining eligibility for special education, working closely with multidisciplinary teams including school psychologists and educational diagnosticians. The position is itinerant, serving between 2-3 school sites.
Key Qualifications:
Active Louisiana Department of Education Certificate and a current professional licensure
Experience with pupil appraisal processes—evaluations, re-evaluations, and educational assessments
Familiarity with special education qualification criteria and intervention monitoring
Comfortable participating in academic and behavioral intervention team meetings (SBLC/ABIT)
Able to adapt to multiple school environments and maintain strong, collaborative relationships
Time-sensitive: Must complete fingerprint background check and drug screening per district requirements
Major Responsibilities:
Conduct student testing and comprehensive evaluations for special education eligibility
Collaborate with interdepartmental staff to coordinate evaluation processes
Monitor interventions and maintain clear, accurate documentation
Attend and contribute to SBLC/ABIT meetings, providing insight from a social work perspective
Support families and educational staff throughout the evaluation and placement process
