Empower students of all ages to navigate with confidence as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist for a reputable school environment near Lowell, MA. Starting in early September and continuing through mid-June, you’ll provide critical onsite services to K-12 learners. This contract role offers steady weekly hours, working Monday through Friday from 8:15 am to 3:15 pm.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Active Orientation & Mobility Specialist License required
• Experience working with children and youth in educational settings, ideally spanning multiple grade levels
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills when collaborating with students, families, and staff
• Ability to assess, develop, and deliver personalized orientation and mobility instruction
• Track record of adapting techniques for learners with diverse needs and abilities
• Commitment to maintaining a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment

Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough assessments of students to determine orientation and mobility needs
• Design and implement customized plans to promote safe, independent navigation within school and community settings
• Teach O&M skills such as cane technique, spatial concepts, route planning, and use of public transportation where appropriate
• Provide direct instruction as well as consultation to teachers and support staff
• Document student progress, update goals, and participate in IEP meetings as required
• Serve as a resource for staff, families, and administration, fostering understanding and advocacy
