Regional Homeless/MKV Liaison
The Regional Homeless/MKV Liaison at the Will County Regional Office of Education provides support and services to school districts and students experiencing homelessness in all aspects of the McKinney Vento Act and the Illinois Education for Homeless Children Act. The primary focus of the position is to ensure that barriers to full school participation are removed for all students experiencing homelessness in Will County public schools and that such students are given the opportunities they need to succeed in school. This position supports the mission, vision and goals of the Regional Superintendent of Schools and acts as an effective and professional representative of the ROE.
Performance Responsibilities
- Coordinate all state and federal educational requirements and obligations for students experiencing homelessness in Will County public schools.
- Support local homeless liaisons and other school district staff by providing training, technical assistance, guidance and direction regarding the rights of students experiencing homelessness.
- Conduct professional learning opportunities including, but not limited to workshops, training and Administrator Academies in-person, in the field and virtually.
- Work collaboratively with the Area 1 Lead Area Liaison grantee and designated staff to receive subgrant financial assistance.
- Coordinate and collaborate with community, county and other external entities to align work, make referrals and seek improved outcomes for students experiencing homelessness.
- Collect and maintain documents, data, records and information sufficient to meet ROE and subgrantee obligations.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and other departments within the ROE in the execution of office functions and programming.
- Participate in relevant professional learning opportunities sufficient to ensure professional growth in meeting the needs of the position.
- Exhibit an excellent attendance record.
- Maintain a professional and welcoming environment conducive to supporting those the ROE serves and staff collaboration.
- Any and all responsibilities assigned by the Student Services Supervisor, Chief of Executive Services/Staff, Assistant Regional Superintendent, Regional Superintendent or their Designee.
Qualifications
- Education - A bachelor's degree is required; a major in education or a related field is preferred.
- Experience - Two years of experience in working with at-risk students or teaching experience is preferred.
- Licensure - A valid Professional Educator License (PEL) is preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to students experiencing homelessness.
- Ability to write, oversee, execute and maintain grants.
- Ability to create, maintain and transmit reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with the individuals, districts, and stakeholders served by the ROE.
- Ability to apply and guide conflict resolution techniques and problem solve.
- Strong working knowledge of computer systems and digital tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email, and database platforms; demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Google Workspace is required to effectively support organizational operations.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with ROE districts, staff, and vendors, while also demonstrating the initiative and judgment to work independently as required.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to receive constructive feedback, self-reflect and modify practice as needed.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Valid driver's license, access to a vehicle and current automobile insurance.
Terms of Employment
- Full-time, twelve (12) month year.
- Work hours, scheduling and assignments are at the discretion of the Student Services Supervisor in consultation with the Chief of Executive Services or designee and per ROE policy. Generally, M-F, 8:30-4:30 PM.
- The work location for this position is the Will County ROE 56 (Joliet).
- Continuous travel within the Will County educational service region is a requirement of this position.
Supervision & Evaluation
- This position reports to the Student Services Supervisor, Chief of Staff, Assistant Regional Superintendent, Regional Superintendent or Designee.
- Performance will be evaluated per ROE policy.
Salary Range $54,000-$62,000 (based on experience)
