Grade ASTD10 Main Purpose of Job This position involves the full performance of activity therapy support work assisting with the provision of prescribed activity therapy programs tailored by Therapeutic Recreators to promote the physical, cognitive, mental, emotional and social behavioral growth of mentally ill patients at Spring Grove Hospital Center. The role provides appropriate activity therapy modalities that address patient individual treatment goals to promote positive change in behavior in areas of psychological, social, recreational, cognitive and physical well‑being through effective therapeutic recreation programming. The position is an emergency essential role and requires a valid Maryland Driver’s License and the ability to drive a state vehicle in accordance with State of Maryland policies. Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience assisting in the implementation of prescribed activity therapy programs under the supervision of a healthcare professional, including patient/client assessments for mentally ill, aged, physically ill or physically disabled patients, or developmentally disabled clients. Note1: Candidates may substitute the completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university, with at least 15 credit hours in health services, human services, education or the behavioral sciences, for two years of the required experience. Note2: Candidates may substitute possession of a Bachelor’s degree in art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy or therapeutic recreation for the required experience. Note3: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non‑commissioned officer in therapy classifications or therapy specialty codes in the therapeutic recreation field on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience. Licenses, Registrations and Certifications Employees in this classification may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. Employees in some positions may need a Class "C" motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. Employees may need to complete and maintain current certification of cardio‑pulmonary resuscitation training. Employees at facilities with a swimming pool may need to obtain Red Cross instruction and certification in life‑saving and water safety prior to permanent appointment.
