Athletic Trainer - PRN - New Orleans, LA

Job Summary This position assumes responsibility for planning, organizing, and conducting the athletic trainer program based upon management direction and physician evaluation and assessment. The Athletic Trainer maintains injury logs, communicates prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation responses, and participates in developing clinic and community rehabilitation programs in conjunction with the Sports Medicine Institute physicians. Participates in continuing education, clinical education, research, and professional paper writing. Responsibilities Prepare age-appropriate prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation plans under physician supervision. Provide immediate on-field care for injuries and recommend physician or therapy follow-up. Maintain injury logs and document per policy and procedure manual. Maintain state license and certification. Assist in day-to-day operations. Adapt behavior to specific patient population, respecting privacy, introduction method, explaining services, requesting permissions, and communication style. Qualifications Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. Preferred: Master’s degree in Athletic Training. Work Experience Required: None. Certifications Current Athletic Trainer License in state of practice. Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information; proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally. Ability to tolerate temperatures of 100°F or more for three hours during outdoor events. Physical and Environmental Demands Very heavy work: occasional lifting >100 pounds, frequent >50 pounds, constant >20 pounds. Must be able to travel between facilities and work flexible schedule. Must be able to stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity. Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and is not required to provide emergency care.
