Job Title: Food Services Worker / Trayline Attendant

Job Description

This role supports the Food & Nutrition team by assembling, delivering, and retrieving patient meal trays with a high level of accuracy, safety, and care. You ensure that patients receive meals that match their diet orders and allergies, maintain a clean and efficient trayline, and provide friendly, professional service to patients and clinical staff in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Assemble patient meal trays according to specific diet orders, allergy requirements, and portion standards.

• Verify meal components for accuracy before trays leave the trayline to support patient safety.

• Deliver meal trays to patient units with professionalism, ensuring timely and courteous service.

• Retrieve used trays from patient units and return them to the dishroom in an organized manner.

• Follow dietary guidelines for diabetic, cardiac, texture‑modified, and allergy‑specific diets when assembling trays.

• Maintain a clean, sanitary trayline and work area throughout the shift, following food safety and hygiene standards.

• Restock food items, paper goods, and supplies to keep the trayline running smoothly and prevent delays.

• Assist in the dishroom with washing, sorting, and organizing dishes, utensils, and food service equipment.

• Provide excellent, customer‑focused service to patients, nurses, and clinical staff, responding to requests courteously.

• Support overall food service operations by communicating effectively with team members and helping where needed.

• Follow all hospital and department procedures related to food handling, safety, and cleanliness.

• Willingness to assist with cleaning and dishroom tasks as part of the role.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in food service, retail, or hospitality is helpful but not required.

• Background in roles such as food service worker, restaurant worker, fast food worker, prep cook, fry cook, or line cook is beneficial.

• Experience with food preparation and cooking tasks is an advantage.

• Retail sales or customer service experience can support success in this role.

• Familiarity with cleaning procedures in a food service or healthcare setting is a plus.

• Ability to learn and use new food service equipment and machines.

Work Environment

This position is based in a hospital setting, working primarily on first shift from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with rotating weekend coverage and occasional 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. shifts. You will work in a clean facility equipped with new machines and food service equipment, spending most of the day on your feet and moving between the trayline, dishroom, and patient units. The environment is fast‑paced and team‑oriented, with a strong focus on food safety, sanitation, and professional conduct appropriate for a hospital.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lancaster, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
