2026-27 Special Education One to One Paraprofessional - Tier 3, Gashland Elementary School Starting Date: Aug 18, 2026 Job Description Paraprofessional - Special Education Tier 3, One to One Purpose Statement The job of Paraprofessional - Special Education Tier 3 is to assist in the supervision, physical and emotional mental health care, and instruction of special needs students in the regular classroom or in a self‑contained classroom; administer medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional; relieve teachers of clerical tasks; assist students by modeling skills necessary to perform assignments; assist in implementing plans for instruction; monitor student behavior during non‐classroom time; and provide information to appropriate school personnel. Essential Functions Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives. Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g., toileting, diapering, feeding, colostomy bags, medication, diabetic management, transfer, navigating, etc.) to meet immediate health care needs. Administer tests, homework, make‑up work, etc. to support teachers. Communicate with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, and others to evaluate progress and/or implement IEP objectives. Evaluate students during the school day to take action and/or provide referral for resolution. Maintain instructional materials, equipment, technology, and/or files/records to ensure availability and meet mandated requirements. Monitor individual and/or groups of students in various settings (e.g., rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, library, drills, field trips, assemblies) to maintain a safe positive learning environment. Participate in meetings and in‑service presentations to acquire and convey information relevant to job functions. Perform routine clerical duties (e.g., filing, typing, attendance, grading, bulletin board) to support teachers. Prepare research‑based lessons for individuals or small groups to implement goals for remediation of deficits. Promote good study, social, and emotional habits to improve student outcomes. Provide instruction under supervision of assigned teacher in a variety of activities (academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, assistive technology) to reinforce instructional objectives, implement IEP plans, and ensure student success. Research resources and methods (intervention and instructional techniques, assessment tools, community resources) to determine appropriate instructional approach. Respond to emergency situations (injured student, fights, etc.) to resolve safety concerns and/or refer to appropriate personnel. Respond to inquiries to solve problems, provide information, and/or referral. Serve as chief source of information for substitute teacher or act as substitute teacher to implement the defined course of study left by the teacher. Other Functions Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of instructional support. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge — Basic math (fractions, percents, ratios); read manuals; write documents following prescribed formats; present information; understand complex, multi‑step instructions. Includes instructional procedures, age‑appropriate activities, safety practices, conflict resolution, mental health regulation, stages of child development/behavior. Skills — Perform multiple tasks, upgrade as needed; adhere to safety practices; operate office equipment and relevant software; prepare and maintain accurate records. Abilities — Schedule activities; gather and collate data; use job‑related equipment; work flexibly with others; interpret data; moderate problem‑solving with equipment; adapt to changing priorities; communicate with diverse groups; maintain confidentiality; work as part of a team; handle interruptions. Responsibility Work under direct supervision using standardized procedures, lead or coordinate others, and operate within a defined budget. Some resources from other units may be required. Work Environment Physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, fine finger dexterity. Typical schedule: 25% sitting, 40% walking, 35% standing. Minimal temperature variations; exposure to risk of injury or illness. Experience Job‑related experience desired. Education High School diploma or equivalent. Preferred: valid Missouri Teaching Certificate; 60 college hours. Equivalency 30‑60 college hours from an accredited institution; pass the Paraprofessional test in Missouri or 20‑hour online substitute training program. Required Testing None specified. Certificates and Licenses Medication Administration trained as needed; CPR/First Aid Certificate; MANDT trained as needed; Substitute Certificate. Continuing Educ./Training Maintain certificates and/or licenses. Clearances Criminal background clearance. FLSA Status Non‑Exempt.
