The position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery. The unit has a total of 26 beds. There are 112 staff members in this specialty unit. Day shift comprises a team lead, 14 nurses, 2-3 surgical techs, and 2 unit clerks. Night shift consists of a team lead, 12 nurses, 2 surgical techs, and 1 unit clerk. Patient ratios are 1:1 for high-risk labor and c-sections. Ratios are 1:2 for antepartum, PPROM, PTL on magnesium, and postpartum on magnesium. Outpatient cases have a ratio of 1:3 without a baby in postpartum magnesium. Common equipment used includes Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, Monica Novii telemetry, and CPN monitors. The electronic medical record system is Meditech/CPN. Candidates should have experience with circulating c-sections and high-risk labor and delivery. Typical procedures performed on the unit include C-sections and inductions, AROM, IUPC, DFM, and Doppler. The best personality fit for the position is compassionate, caring, friendly, patient, and solutions-oriented. Strong leadership support is available on the floor as needed. Tenured staff members boast 20-40 years of experience. The unit practice includes self-scheduling, promoting high staff satisfaction. The nursing team works collaboratively to cover staffing needs and support one another. A new OB hospitalist program has been recently initiated to provide attending support to the residency program and nurses working triage.
