Contract Details:

• Shift / Schedule: 12:00 AM 8:30 AM, Tuesday Saturday with rotating Sunday
• Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
• Pay Rate: $20.70$24.15 / Hour (USD)

Job Summary: The Specimen Technician I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background and involves functions including A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy and in a timely manner. The role is complex and requires good organization skills and the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered by clients. The Specimen Technician I must have the ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change on a daily basis. This position is critical to quality for customer satisfaction. The department is a production environment with emphasis on productivity and quality standards, and since many changes occur from day to day, great flexibility is required. The Specimen Technician I will be exposed to many different demands made by the customer.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform A-station functions, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory
• Execute imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting tasks
• Enter data with ability to process 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
• Work in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits
• Sit or stand for long periods as required by operational demands
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff
• Adhere to core values, safety and compliance policies and procedures
• Keep work area neat and clean
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment
• Demonstrate flexibility and ability to adapt to change

Required Skills:

• Data entry with ability to process 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
• Basic understanding of computers
• Ability to learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered
• Ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering

Preferred Skills:

• Laboratory testing knowledge
• Laboratory specimen processing experience
• Medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory
• Production environment experience

Education Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent

Nice-to-Have Experience:

• Previous laboratory experience
• Medical background
• Previous hospital laboratory experience
• Previous experience in a production environment

Work Environment / Physical Requirements:

• Works in a biohazard environment
• Able to sit or stand for long periods
• Majority of work on the night shift
• Weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime availability required
• Overtime expected
