Position Information Job Title Program Coordinator of Health Occupations (12-month position) Job Description The Coordinator of Health Occupations provides leadership, coordination, administration, and oversight for Health Occupations programs. The Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and continuously improving Health Occupations programs, including but not limited to Nursing Assistant I, Nursing Assistant II, Nurse Aide Refresher, Phlebotomy, Medication Aide, and other healthcare-related continuing education programs. Working within the College’s One College model, the Coordinator collaborates across all campuses, departments, and service areas to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality workforce training that meets community, employer, regulatory, and student needs. The position is responsible for program quality, regulatory compliance, student success, and workforce responsiveness. The position serves as the primary liaison between the College’s continuing education health programs and healthcare employers, clinical partners, regulatory agencies, instructors, and students to support workforce development initiatives throughout the College’s service area. The Coordinator of Health Occupations reports to the Dean of Health Sciences. Full Time or Part Time Full Time or Part Time Full Time Duties include Program Leadership and Oversight Provide administrative oversight for Health Occupations continuing education programs throughout the College’s service area. Administrative oversight includes but is not limited to scheduling of classes, registration, and compliance reporting. Coordinate program operations utilizing a One College approach that promotes consistency, collaboration, and efficient use of resources across all campuses and instructional locations. Develop and implement short-term and long-range plans that support institutional strategic priorities, workforce needs, and community demands. Ensure programs remain current with industry standards, healthcare regulations, workforce trends, and state requirements. Evaluate program effectiveness through data analysis, student outcomes, employer feedback, enrollment trends, and workforce demand. Maintain compliance with all College policies, North Carolina Community College System requirements, state regulations, accrediting agencies, and applicable healthcare regulations. One-College Collaboration Partner academic divisions (e.g., Nursing and Allied Health) with Workforce Development and Community Education ( WDCE ) to align non-curriculum and curriculum offerings, creating seamless pathways for student progression. Collaborate with workforce development staff, campus leadership (Wilkes, Ashe, Alleghany), and external partners to ensure consistent program delivery across the College service area. Support cross-functional initiatives that promote a unified institutional approach to health occupations training. Instructional Support & Instructor Management Recruit, hire, orient, and evaluate qualified adjunct instructors in accordance with College and state guidelines. Provide leadership in instructional quality, ensuring effective teaching strategies, student engagement, and adherence to course standards. Foster a collaborative team environment that promotes excellence in teaching and student success. Instructional Responsibilities Teach Nursing Assistant I (Nurse Aide I) courses as assigned, ensuring instruction meets all North Carolina Community College System, North Carolina Board of Nursing, and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services requirements. Maintain instructor eligibility, certifications, and continuing education required to teach Nurse Aide courses. Deliver high-quality classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction that promotes student success, workforce readiness, and compliance with all regulatory standards. Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate instructional, attendance, clinical, and regulatory records in accordance with College and state requirements. Regulatory Compliance and Clinical Partnerships Maintain compliance with North Carolina Board of Nursing requirements, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services regulations, North Carolina Community College System guidelines, and other applicable regulatory agencies. Coordinate clinical sites, laboratory experiences, and partnerships necessary for program delivery. Establish and maintain effective relationships with healthcare providers, long-term care facilities, hospitals, physician practices, and other community partners. Ensure all required contracts, agreements, and documentation related to clinical experiences remain current. Monitor student and instructor compliance with clinical requirements and healthcare facility expectations. Institutional Responsibilities Support the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of Wilkes Community College. Serve on College committees, task forces, and special projects as assigned. Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional competence. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Required Qualifications A minimum of an associate’s degree from an accredited institution. A Registered Nurse with an unencumbered license and licensed to practice in North Carolina. At least two (2) years (4000 hours) of experience as a registered nurse in the United States. At least one (1) year (2000 hours) of RN experience in the provision of long-term care facility services in the United States demonstrated by: working in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility which is a distinct part of a hospital, supervising or teaching students in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility, or in a skilled nursing facility that is a distinct part of a hospital. Preferred Qualifications A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Physical Demands Work is performed in a variety of settings including offices, classrooms, laboratories, clinical facilities, and community locations. Evening and weekend work, local travel, and occasional overnight travel may be required. The position requires interaction with students, instructors, healthcare providers, regulatory agencies, and community partners. The employee must maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Medium work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Duties may require standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying instructional materials and equipment, and traveling between College campuses, clinical sites, and community locations.
