Associate Research Scientist II

Abbott seeks an Associate Research Scientist II for its Cancer Diagnostics R&D division in Madison, Wisconsin. The role involves executing moderate to complex research projects on early cancer detection diagnostics, applying molecular biology expertise, and collaborating across functional teams with guidance from senior scientists.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute bench-level experiments, identify problems, and analyze results with some senior guidance
• Conduct late-stage product development studies including stability testing, design verification, and manufacturing investigations
• Develop and apply molecular biology techniques to support early cancer detection diagnostic development
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve product performance and maintain quality standards
• Prepare experimental protocols, maintain lab notebooks, and generate reports and documentation of findings

Requirements

• Experience with molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, and NGS methods
• Proficiency in blood processing and protein-based assays
• Ability to operate scientific instrumentation and analyze experimental data
• Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
• Experience with laboratory documentation and regulatory compliance (ISO, QSR requirements)
• Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects with changing priorities and work in fast-paced environment
