Coordinator of Student Support and Care

Position Purpose The Coordinator of Student Support and Care supports learning by leading the University’s integrated student‑support framework, overseeing the Care Team, cross‑departmental intervention processes, and individualized student case management. The position plays a critical role in fostering a safe, supportive, and mission‑aligned learning environment. This role ensures streamlined support for students experiencing academic distress, personal crises, behavioral concerns, or basic need challenges. Core Competencies Represents Aurora University in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers, and the community we serve. Interacts effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and other customers of our service, learns and uses operating practices of the department and Aurora University. Handles all information with tact and discretion and recognises the confidential nature of university business. Supports learning through the performance of essential job functions and performing other duties and functions as necessary or assigned, including voluntary participation in university committees, activities and events. Essential Job Functions Serve as the Co‑Chair and member of the Care Team, which addresses mental health, behavioral, and social adjustment issues of students. Provide case management oversight for students referred to the Care Team, including coordinating and tracking action plans and continuity of care as needed. Establish and sustain strong working partnerships within the community as well as across campus resources such as the Wellness Center, Campus Life, the Disability Resource Office, the Office of Financial Aid, the Office of Student Accounts, Wackerlin Center for Faith & Action, and the Crouse Center for University Advising to develop comprehensive support plans for students. Utilize Maxient and Navigate as appropriate to document Care Team case notes, analyze data, and monitor on‑going concerns. Perform annual data analysis of the types and frequency of concerning behavior reported to the Care Team and utilize results to develop campus resources to address common student needs. Oversee the University’s medical leave of absence (MLOA) and reinstatement process for students. Serve as the institution's required housing liaison under Illinois law, providing coordinated support and referrals for students experiencing or at risk of housing insecurity and ensuring compliance with State expectations. Communicate with parents, families, and/or designated emergency contacts as appropriate regarding significant mental health or health emergencies, including suicide attempts, hospitalizations, etc. Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Job Requirements Education Bachelor's degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education Administration or a related discipline is required. Experience Full‑time, professional experience in higher education or related field is required. Experience providing crisis intervention is preferred. Skills Solid understanding of Microsoft and Apple operating systems. Sound judgment and prioritization skills. Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills. Quick learner with great prioritization skills. Ability to work independently and be dependable. Ability to accept divergent views while maintaining a constructive working relationship with other team members. Detail‑oriented with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities. Ability to develop strong collaborative working relationships with all campus and community partners. Physical Requirements Ability to work with a computer for long periods of the day. Ability to attend off‑campus meetings. Office setting, standing, walking, sitting. Work Hours: Expected equivalent of 40 hours per week, but days/hours may vary as needed. Hybrid or work‑from‑home employment will be considered if a candidate can demonstrate the ability to fulfill this role effectively off‑site. Special Requirements A valid driver's license and driving record which meets institutional requirements is required.
