Payroll Analyst

Payroll Analyst will support accurate, compliant payroll operations for approximately 1,300 employees across multiple locations and states, including complex jurisdictions such as California, New York, New Jersey, and Illinois. With the organization transitioning to Workday, this role will leverage hands-on Workday expertise while focusing heavily on payroll auditing, discrepancy identification, union payroll, compliance, and reporting. The position partners closely with HR, Benefits, Finance, employees, and managers to identify issues before they impact payroll and improve processes as the organization continues to grow. Responsibilities Process and review multi-state payroll for exempt, non-exempt, and union employees across multiple locations. Audit payroll, benefits, taxes, timekeeping, deductions, and employee records to identify discrepancies and compliance issues. Investigate payroll variances and proactively resolve errors before payroll completion. Support payroll operations and process improvements within Workday. Review union-specific payroll requirements, including benefit and retirement plan eligibility and deductions. Reconcile timekeeping information and coordinate with managers to resolve missing or unapproved timecards. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll and tax requirements across complex jurisdictions. Prepare payroll and compliance reporting, including state and OSHA-related reporting. Perform recurring benefits and payroll audits throughout the year. Respond to employee payroll questions and guide payroll and timekeeping processes. Support payroll activities associated with new locations, acquisitions, and state registrations. Assist with payroll system implementations and process enhancements. Qualifications At least 3 years of hands-on payroll processing experience. Hands-on Workday payroll experience is required. Multi-state payroll experience is required, including experience with complex state requirements. Union payroll processing experience is required. Must reside in the Austin, Texas area and be able to work a hybrid schedule. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas, and data analysis. Experience performing payroll, benefits, tax, compliance, and timekeeping audits. Experience supporting payroll for a multi-location workforce; experience with approximately 1,000+ employees is preferred. Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll and tax regulations. Payroll or HRIS implementation experience is highly preferred. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus.
