We're partnering with a well-established nonprofit organization on a confidential search for an Accounting Manager / Senior Accounting Manager. This is a high-impact role for a hands-on accounting leader who can stabilize systems, strengthen processes, and support payroll operations across a multi-state workforce. This position is fully remote (Washington, DC metro area preferred), with the team gathering in person about once a year.
What You'll Do
- Provide hands-on support for NetSuite stabilization, system enhancements, testing, data validation, and process improvement initiatives.
- Support the Accounting Manager and Senior Director during the next phase of the NetSuite implementation.
- Own month-end close activities, journal entries, and troubleshooting alongside the accounting team.
- Document NetSuite processes and build new SOPs by partnering with team members to understand current workflows.
- Provide oversight and operational support within the General Ledger to maintain accuracy in financial reporting.
- Support payroll operations and the transition to new payroll processes in Dayforce, ensuring timely and accurate payroll across 25 states.
- Manage payroll tax compliance, including quarterly 941 filings and payroll tax notices.
- Clear a backlog of payroll tax correspondence by researching issues, contacting tax agencies, and working through vendor ticketing systems.
- Assist with Form 990 preparation and business tax notices.
- Monitor project timelines, track deliverables, and keep critical deadlines on track across multiple concurrent initiatives.
- Serve as a resource and steady presence for the Finance & Accounting team, helping ensure continuity during a period of significant organizational and system change.
What You Bring
- Hands-on NetSuite ERP experience (required).
- 7+ years of payroll processing or payroll management experience, including multi-state payroll and tax compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Experience with grant accounting.
- Advanced Excel and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Dayforce experience is a plus.
- 501(c)(3) and/or 501(c)(6) nonprofit accounting experience is a plus.
