Job Responsibilities
The mission of the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) is to serve students, support teachers, empower parents, and engage the community so that every student graduates prepared to reach their full potential.
Job Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the Office Director, this position provides administrative support for office activities, processes, and systems to promote the efficient operation of the office.
Responsibilities:
A high school diploma. Related clerical experience may be substituted for a high school diploma. Preferred Qualifications
• An associate's degree or higher in a field requiring administrative skills; or a high school diploma and at least three (3) years of clerical/administrative experience.
• Knowledge of, and experience using, Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Knowledge of basic proofreading skills (grammar, syntax, spelling, and punctuation).
• A sharp eye for detail, the ability to concentrate for long periods of time, the ability to work neatly and accurately, and good organizational/time management skills.

Job Purpose:

Responsibilities:
- Provides timely and accurate assistance with travel request authorizations (TRAs), emails, correspondence, and staff scheduling.
- Uses word processing programs (e.g., Microsoft Word) to compile, type, revise, combine, edit, print, and store correspondence, reports, records, and other documents, including checking documents to ensure adherence to the SCDE Style Manual and SCDE branding guidelines.
- Uses data spreadsheet programs (e.g., Microsoft Excel) to record and track data to assist with Office of Special Education (OSES) processes and systems.
- Provides assistance to workgroups, committees, and education associates in OSES-related tasks, including recording meeting minutes, assisting with the scheduling of interviews and meetings, securing rooms and venues, setting up for meetings, and cleaning up after meetings.
- Answers phone calls and directs callers to appropriate OSES or agency personnel.
- Assists with entering and tracking items in the SCDE approval system; Agency Routing Tool (ART), and coordinates with other SCDE offices and departments to aid in the approval process.
- Assists with retrieving and redacting documents responsive to requests made under the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
