Citi Commercial Bank - Commercial Lending Management - DTC Subsector Head

Citi’s US Commercial Bank (CCB) is a rapidly growing business targeting emerging, mid‑ and larger‑sized companies with an annual revenue range generally from $100 million to $3 billion. To facilitate the CCB’s wholesale lending activities, the Commercial Lending Management (CLM) function serves as an in‑business credit function organized around strategic industries and a global target market approach. CLM plays a critical role in the client delivery model, translating thought‑leadership, industry and product expertise, and end‑to‑end ownership of the credit relationship into best‑in‑class lending solutions. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated credit professional to join the US CLM Digital, Technology & Communications (DTC) industry. This position reports directly to the US CLM DTC Industry Head and will be based in San Francisco, CA. CLM is essential for the delivery of a wide range of financial solutions to Citi CCB clients, working in direct partnership with Relationship Managers and Independent Risk, to execute on the firm’s and client’s business objectives. This can include working capital solutions, term loans and M&A financing, treasury and liquidity management services, foreign exchange, trade finance and interest rate derivatives. The primary responsibilities of CLM include credit underwriting, due diligence, structuring and documentation, and portfolio monitoring. As part of the business and in direct partnership with relationship coverage bankers, CLM teams provide thorough, objective analysis of the financial condition and credit worthiness of borrowers, including prevailing covered industry sector and product/market conditions, as well as the appropriate credit structure based on various risk considerations. The CLM Subsector Head will work with coverage peers in specific deal‑related and transaction needs to implement and support the CLM and Coverage Heads agreed strategy. This role partners with the Sector Head for day‑to‑day portfolio management of the DTC portfolio, focusing on less complex transactions. The role is ultimately responsible for developing SVP Credit Officers and junior employees. The Subsector Head will ensure completion of remediations, controls, and review approval packages prior to submission to SCO. The CLM Subsector Head role requires an extensive understanding of various Citi and CCB‑specific credit policies, processes, and procedures, consistently applying these concepts in practice. The role ensures the portfolio is appropriately risk‑rated, classified, secured (if applicable), and that early warning signs are established and proactively addressed. CLM represents a critical “first line of defense” control function for the bank, ensuring the CCB’s credit process complies with internal and regulatory frameworks and responds to relevant inquiries. Key Responsibilities Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and Citi's policies and guidelines at all times Leads and manages pipeline, risk, and portfolio reviews for the subsector Represents the business as a senior credit professional for the portfolio in various forums, including client discussions Appropriately assesses risk when business decisions are made, safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, applying sound ethical judgment, and escalating control issues with transparency Provides informed views and effective client solutions in partnership with Coverage, Product and Risk, while balancing risk/reward trade‑off Drives quality and timeliness of the end‑to‑end lending process and all credit deliverables to ensure timely response Provides leadership on special projects and recommends changes to improve existing processes for greater efficiency and controls Qualifications 13+ years relevant experience Strong experience supporting Digital, Technology, Communications, or innovation‑driven businesses Leadership experience managing and developing senior credit professionals Proven track record of risk management and supporting the growth of client relationships through thought partnership Strong credit fundamentals with the ability to articulate a view, work across a range of credit products, and recognize and resolve early problems Demonstrates timely, transparent decision making, knowing when enough information has been collected to make sound decisions, and takes calculated risks with confidence to defend a credit view Primary Location: San Francisco, CA Primary Salary Range: $200,000.00 – $300,000.00 Citi offers competitive employee benefits, including medical, dental and vision coverage; 401(k); life, accident and disability insurance; wellness programs; paid time off, vacation, sick leave and paid holidays.
