CBIZ Talent Solutions is partnering with a leading heavy civil construction organization to identify an experienced Senior Estimator / Estimating Lead . This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a construction professional with deep estimating expertise who is ready to drive strategic bidding efforts, mentor team members, and contribute to the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in heavy civil construction estimating, including highways, bridges, concrete paving, site development, and underground utilities. Most importantly, candidates must have direct experience utilizing HCSS HeavyBid and related HCSS software applications .

Position Summary

The Senior Estimator / Estimating Lead will oversee the development of accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates for a variety of public and private infrastructure projects. This individual will collaborate closely with executive leadership, operations teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to position the company for continued growth and project success.

This role offers the opportunity to influence bidding strategy, improve estimating processes, and serve as a key leader within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating Leadership

• Lead the preparation of detailed estimates and bid packages for heavy civil construction projects.
• Analyze plans, specifications, contracts, and supporting documentation to determine project requirements and costs.
• Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, trucking, and production cost estimates.
• Establish bid strategies and provide pricing recommendations to senior leadership.
• Coordinate and manage the bid process from opportunity evaluation through proposal submission.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project reviews.

Preconstruction & Cost Analysis

• Perform quantity takeoffs and cost analyses.
• Evaluate project risks, opportunities, and constructability considerations.
• Maintain and leverage historical cost databases and production metrics.
• Monitor market conditions, material pricing, labor trends, and subcontractor availability.
• Support successful project handoffs to operations teams following project award.

Team Development

• Serve as a mentor and technical resource for estimators and project personnel.
• Assist in establishing estimating standards, processes, and best practices.
• Foster collaboration between estimating and operations functions to improve project outcomes.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of estimating experience within heavy civil construction.
• Proven experience estimating projects involving:
• • Highway and roadway construction
  • Bridge construction and rehabilitation
  • Concrete paving
  • Underground utilities
  • Sitework and earthwork
• Direct experience with HCSS HeavyBid is required.
• Experience utilizing additional HCSS software applications preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, production rates, equipment costing, and scheduling considerations.
• Experience with public works, DOT, municipal, and infrastructure projects.
• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and pursuits simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. 
• Previous experience leading an estimating team or serving as a lead estimator.
