High School Special Education Teacher at KNDLA (26/27)

About the KIPP Colorado Special Education Teacher Role The Special Education Teacher is the instructional leader of their student caseload and is directly responsible for driving student outcomes and creating an exceptional student experience. Teachers develop daily instruction aligned with our academic program to enable significant academic growth each year. The Special Education Teacher plans instruction, organizes learning activities, and implements accommodations and modifications for students’ IEPs, BIPs, 504 Plans, and MTSS interventions. The teacher creates and cultivates a culturally responsive classroom community, upholding school-wide expectations and managing tier 1 behaviors. The role includes school-wide duties such as arrival and dismissal, transitions, hallway/bathroom supervision, and coverage for staff absences. This is a 10-month academic position and exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The position reports to a member of the school leadership team. Role Responsibilities Responsibilities and time allocation include, but are not limited to: Believe deeply in the mission, values, and RIDE commitments and that all children can learn Assume personal responsibility for student achievement Read, internalize, and adhere to KIPP Colorado Policies and Procedures Provide active presence, strategic supervision, and intentional monitoring to ensure student safety and engagement Engage in ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development with regular meetings Prepare for lessons, meetings, coaching, and professional development Meet professional obligations and deadlines Leverage Google and Microsoft tools and maintain timely attendance Collaborate with colleagues and seek feedback for continuous improvement Participate in professional development, grade level, and department meetings Engage in school-wide and org-wide professional development Contribute as a positive member of a grade or functional team and share candid feedback for student outcomes Assist with recruitment and engagement activities and may require travel to other campuses or events Perform other duties as assigned (e.g., lunch duty, arrival/dismissal, hallway duty) Special Education Responsibilities Develop, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of special education programs and supports Maintain IEPs, 504s, evaluations, and ELL programs with fidelity Liaison with parents through trainings and meetings Provide case management for the Special Education caseload and instruction to students with supports Ensure accurate completion of IEPs, BIPs, and FBAs Provide minutes, accommodations, and modifications in collaboration with general education teachers Support classroom teachers with understanding student support plans Instructional Planning and Delivery Develop standards-based unit plans and daily lesson plans Design and deliver rigorous, backwards-planned lessons Design and implement assessments aligned with daily objectives Grade student work and provide feedback and support Plan rigorous lessons with a focus on internalization Use the adopted curriculum with fidelity Use data to adjust short- and long-term plans to meet learning needs School Culture Alignment Establish relationships with students and families based on trust and respect Approach practice with urgency to maximize instructional time Maintain high expectations for academic work and classroom behavior Establish and reinforce rules and consequences to maintain a positive classroom Meet professional obligations and deadlines Additional Responsibilities Active presence and supervision to ensure safety and engagement Complete MLE coursework and certification requirements where applicable Partner with Special Services leadership to ensure proper implementation of supports Enforce positive behavior systems and monitor data Attend school events and participate in parent meetings and conferences Build relationships with families through home visits and communication Maintain records, grade books, and data tracking systems Assist with recruitment and other duties as assigned Role Level Specifics and Qualifications Bachelor's degree (required) Special Education License or TEE through CDE (required) Spanish bilingual (preferred) Ability to meet ESSA criteria (required) At least 2 years of teaching experience (highly preferred) Willingness to work after-hours events (required) Commitment to exceptional student experiences and to working with diverse backgrounds Outstanding organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment Entrepreneurial mindset and collaborative approach Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to KIPP Colorado mission Compensation and Benefits We offer competitive compensation and benefits, including: Starting salary at $65,015, commensurate with experience Excellent healthcare plan with employee premium paid More than 6 weeks of annual vacation/PTO, with up to 8 PTO days depending on hire date Summer break and other time-off provisions as applicable Colorado PERA retirement program and 401(k) option Relocation reimbursement where applicable Additional stipends and voluntary insurance options Employee assistance and mental health resources KIPP Colorado Schools is dedicated to equal employment opportunities and fair labor practices.
