Job Summary Staff Nurse - Per Diem Rotating Day - BWH Ambulatory OBGYN - IVF Essential Functions Organization of Patient Care Accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating a plan of care for specific patient assignments. Sets priorities when organizing care for patients with varying acuity. Maintains continuity through clear and concise verbal and written communication. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of growth and development of the adult and geriatric patient; applies principles to neonate in NICU and Obstetrics. Quality of Care Documents patient care clearly, completely, concisely, and in compliance with nursing documentation standards. Develops comprehensive plans of care based on initial assessments, teamwork input, referrals, and medical records. Creates educational plans for patients and families using resources and departmental documentation standards. Develops discharge plans utilizing community resources and referrals. Evaluates plan effectiveness, documents progress, and revises plans as needed. Participates in unit-based and organizational quality management and improvement programs. Provides a safe environment for patients, staff, family, and visitors. Administers medication safely following established policies. Performs nursing procedures safely and efficiently. Uses equipment safely and efficiently. Demonstrates awareness of infection risks and universal precautions. Coordination / Collaboration Interacts with patients, families, and colleagues professionally. Collaborates with other disciplines. Develops, utilizes, and evaluates unit-specific standards of care. Upholds the ANA code of ethics as a role model. Participates in setting and reviewing unit goals and objectives. Serves on unit-based and organizational committees, disseminating information to peers. Education Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth by identifying learning needs. Shares knowledge and experience with colleagues. Participates in unit-based and organizational educational programs. Seeks and accepts guidance for additional learning needs. Research Utilizes nursing research findings in clinical practice. Contributes to nursing and/or medical research endeavors by supporting investigators. Budget Utilizes time and materials effectively and economically. Suggests cost‑effective health care delivery improvements. Accurately assesses patient acuity for staffing and transfer decisions. Aware of managing within established budgetary boundaries. Personnel Participates in orientation of new staff, students, and others as appropriate. Provides input into clinical evaluation of other staff. Assumes responsibility for the unit in absence of leadership. Adheres to hospital and nursing policies and assists in their interpretation. Recommends policy and procedure changes through appropriate channels. Participates in peer support and cooperative efforts for smooth unit operation, including flexibility in assignments and schedules. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree. Licenses and Credentials Registered Nurse in Massachusetts required. Experience Clinical nursing experience 2 years required. Recent IVF care coordination and triage experience required. Previous OR/PACU/moderate sedation experience preferred. Experience and demonstrated skill with IV placement preferred. Previous IVF procedural experience preferred. Experience in team‑based care preferred. Membership in professional organizations is recommended; certification in a specialty area is encouraged. Able to work weekend rotation per the MNA contract. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrates basic analytic thinking necessary to care for a group of patients. Shows observational skills and prioritization ability. Functions under stress with good interpersonal and communication skills. Applies hospital standards in service area, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management.
