Accountant (San Diego)

Civic Communities works to enhance the quality of life for those living and working in low-income, underserved and distressed communities. We use leveraged financing to foster livable communities and healthy neighborhoods, nurture small business and stimulate job creation. We also provide project management, technical consulting and construction services support.

The ideal candidate will perform various professional accounting duties and maintain computerized books and records for the Corporation through financial statements and year-end audits. The incumbent will perform grant accounting, and will assist in the development of budgets, financial statements and annual audits and tax returns.

Responsibilities

• Maintains full accounting records including, but not limited to, cash receipts, accounts payable and receivable processing, billing and collections, bank reconciliations, fixed asset management and tracking, general ledger account roll forwards, monthly and year-end journal entries and monthly and year-end closings.
• Prepares monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reports.
• Performs month-end allocation of expenses billable to third parties.
• Monitors project/vendor contract budgets and expenditures against approved funding sources and monitors remaining balances.
• Performs grant accounting.
• Assists in the preparation of annual budgets.
• Assists with coordinating the year-end audits.
• Assists in the preparation of annual tax returns.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree or its equivalent in accounting, finance, business or a closely related field is desired. Relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• At least five (5) years of progressively responsible professional level experience in accounting, finance and budgeting. Experience should include financial statement preparation.
• Knowledge of fund accounting and grant accounting.
• Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
