  Job Title: Staffing Coordinator (LPN/RN) 

Department: Nursing 

Reports To: Director of Nursing (DON) / Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

The Staffing Coordinator (LPN/RN) is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining staffing schedules to ensure adequate nursing coverage for quality resident care. This role collaborates with nursing leadership to meet staffing needs, maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, and support efficient workforce management. The Staffing Coordinator also serves as a licensed nurse and may provide clinical support as needed.

• Prepare and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly nursing staff schedules. 
• Coordinate staffing for all nursing departments, including CNAs, LPNs, and RNs. 
• Arrange coverage for call-offs, vacations, leaves of absence, and emergencies. 
• Maintain staffing levels in accordance with facility census, acuity, and regulatory requirements. 
• Contact off-duty staff and agency personnel when necessary to fill open shifts. 
• Monitor overtime and labor costs while ensuring safe staffing levels. 
• Maintain accurate attendance, scheduling, and payroll-related records. 
• Verify employee credentials, licenses, certifications, and required training. 
• Communicate staffing updates to department managers and nursing supervisors. 
• Assist with orientation scheduling for new employees. 
• Support employee retention through fair scheduling practices. 
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and facility staffing regulations. 
• Participate in staffing meetings and quality improvement initiatives. 
• Maintain confidentiality of employee and resident information. 
• Perform direct nursing duties as assigned during staffing shortages or emergencies. 
• Serves as a consultant to staff regarding infectious diseases, resident room placement, staff and resident exposure. Serves as a resource to residents, families, visitors, and vendors. 
• Responsible for identification, investigation, reporting, and prevention and control of infection and communicable diseases within the facility, including both healthcare associated infections (HAI) and Community acquired infections. (CAI) 
• Data analysis and reporting-analyzes infection data, identify trends, and prepares reports on infection rates. Prepares and presents reports on the facility infection rates and prevention strategies. Implements the necessary measures to reduce and prevent infections. 
• Provides strong analytical, observational, decision-making, communication, and leadership skills. Pay attention to detail and work effectively under pressure. 
• Collaborates with facility leadership to include maintenance and environmental services to conduct infection prevention and control procedures relevant to their department. 
• Provides on-going in-services on programs related to infection prevention and control. Follows all state and federal in-service mandates. 
• Education to prevent infection is provided to the staff, residents, families, vendors, and volunteers in a language and level of understanding. Education should include proper hygiene and other measures to prevent infections. 
• Outbreak response-coordinate response efforts during an infectious outbreak, investigates sources, and implements containment measures. Reports to the local health department, as required. 
• Compliance and risk assessment- conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and inspections to ensure adherence to infection control standards of practice and regulatory requirements. Conducts routine environmental rounding to identify risks to the infection control and prevention program. (monitor hand hygiene, proper glove usage, proper linen handling, proper donning and doffing of PPE, environmental services, appropriate medical device cleaning, etc.) 
• Collaborates with health care teams, both locally and state/national levels, to maintain a safe environment within the facility. Acts as a disease detective to prevent healthcare associated infections and antimicrobial resistance. 
• Performs infection risk assessments routinely, works closely with local and State Health Department to track and prevent the spread of infectious diseases. 
• Stay up to date with the latest research and development in infectious diseases. 
• Maintains knowledge of current state and federal regulations and clinical standards of practice relevant to infection control and prevention. 
• Should possess comprehensive knowledge of infectious diseases, infection control protocols, and health and safety regulations. 
• Ensures adherence to hygiene and safety protocols and detect any early signs of infectious diseases. 
• Ensures compliance with infection related regulations from Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as well as operational guidelines from Center of Disease and Control. (CDC). 
• Infectious Disease process- identifies occurrences, reservoirs, incubation periods, mode of transmission, signs and symptoms and susceptibility associated with the infectious disease process. 
• Interprets lab and other diagnostic test. 
• Differentiates between colonization and infection. 
• Differentiates between prophylactic and therapeutic uses of antimicrobials. 
• Develops, implements, and evaluates the facility Infection Control Program and follows the facility policies and procedures, pandemic preparedness, hand hygiene, standard precautions, transmission-based precautions, employee health, outbreak management, water management, and training on infection prevention and control. 
• Immunizations- both resident and staff requirements. 
• Provides and/or coordinates the annual required training and competencies for infection control and prevention. (CMS guidelines) 
• Antibiotic Stewardship Program. 
• Provides and participates in survey ready exercises using survey pathways associated with infection control and prevention requirements. 
• Collects and reports data as required to CDC’s National Healthcare and Safety Network. (NHSN) 
• Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI)- maintains systemic collection analysis, processes, and outcome data to include NHSN data, Infection risks, communicable disease outbreaks. Utilizes the data to provide opportunities for improvement. 
• Additional duties assigned by DON or Administrator

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted LPN or RN license in the state of Alabama. 
• Long-term care or skilled nursing experience preferred. 
• Previous staffing or scheduling experience preferred. 
• Knowledge of staffing software and electronic health records. 
• Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills. 
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment. 
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook. 

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds. 
• Ability to use computers, telephones, and office equipment for extended periods. 
• May be required to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, or provide on-call staffing support.
