Private Family in New York City Seeking a Nanny/Family Assistant

Position: Nanny/ Family Assistant
Schedule: 25–35 hours/week, Part-Time 
Hours: Monday - Friday 12 PM or 2 PM –7 PM (25-35 hours/week)
Salary: $40–$42/hour
Benefits: 2 weeks PTO, paid holidays, sick days, and MetroCard

About the Family

A family in New York City is looking for a long-term Nanny and Family Assistant for their two children, a 9-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl. The family has a housekeeper three days per week and is looking for someone who can focus on the children while also helping with laundry, errands, organization, and light meal prep.

The children get out of school around 3:00 PM, with later pickups some days due to activities. Their schools are about six blocks apart and pickups are on foot.

Responsibilities

• Family laundry and organization
• School pickups and after-school activities
• Help with homework, assignments, and time management
• Keep their son on track with what is due and when
• Help the children work through emotions, talk through problems, and find solutions
• Maintain boundaries and be a warm but confident authority figure
• Help with baths, dinner, and occasional bedtime
• Run errands and assist with light meal prep, such as chopping vegetables and marinating meats
• Communicate closely with parents and keep them updated
• Be proactive and find solutions when issues come up

Ideal Candidate

Someone warm, polished, organized, and confident with school-aged children . A teaching or child development background is a plus but not required. The family wants someone who understands how to manage children’s emotions while still setting clear boundaries.

Must be comfortable navigating NYC, taking buses/public transportation, and doing a lot of walking. The family is looking for someone proactive who sees what needs to be done and takes initiative.

They would love someone looking for a long-term position who wants to become part of the family.

Summer

The family spends July and August in Westhampton. Ideally, the Family Assistant can join them during the week and commute back on weekends. If traveling with the family, they must be able to swim and drive.
